So my story ... I noticed my balding when I was turning 19 I got to the doctor and he said try minoxidil it should work. Said and done! I had great regrowth and at the beginning I thought the hair loss was over. Then I started to read some info about hairloss and came to the conclusion just minoxidil won't cut it! But I was afraid of side effects so I hesitated to try it. At the beginning of the year I thought ok just try it ...

Well after 2 weeks a horror shed began. I was used to shedding from minoxidil and was acutally quite happy because it meant the thing is working. But the Problem is ... THERE IS NO REGROWTH! I'm now shedding for 3 months and my hair has lost a lot of density. I only applied minoxidil on the sides because there was where I had my biggest problems and in this regions there is some regrowth but my whole front looks like a mess! Should I just stop finasteride? As I said I'm used to shedding and had no problem with it but usually when I shed the hair grows back but with finasteride I shed everywhere and the regrowth is only in the areas where minoxidil is applied!

You should give finasteride at LEAST 6 months before you give it up....a lot of people go through several sheds on finasteride which can last quite a while. You really need to stick with it for 6 months to a year to see. Its not going to cause you to lose more hair.

Stick with it for at least a year. 6 months is sometimes not enough because a lot of people don't begin to notice improvement til the 8-12 month mark and sometimes even later. From reading these boards, I've heard it often. People shed, or they have sides or it doesn't work and they stick with it for a year and they say it's the best decision ever since they were so close to quitting. The biggest problem with finasteride in my opinion is quitting too early.
