i'm new to these forums and after months of being a bystander and reading I decided to jump in myself. i'm 27 years old and started thinning in the front part of my head about 3 years ago. I still have pretty good coverage and my hairline has not moved back at all but my hair is noticeably thinner. when I don't have any products in my hair and it's dry and down it doesn't look too thin however I like to gel my hair up and wear it spiked... this is where the problem begins. when I do this I can see my scalp pretty bad. I honestly thought the thinning was due to stress as the past 3 years of my life were nothing but that however even after that part of my life is over my hair has not recovered. I bought rogaine in hopes that it could help me out but after doing a whole lot of research i'm reluctant to take it. the thing that scares of about it is the shedding. I then thought I might jump on propecia but after researching that too it turns out people shed on that as well. I really wanna get on something to stop the thinning before it gets any worse but can anyone tell me which product they've found to have less shedding in their patients or the percentage of people who do shed on rogaine or propecia. I wanna jump on one or the other but I wanna go the route which will have less shedding because I know if I start losing hair fast i'll be quick to drop the product. thanks

Right there with you, I'm in the same boat. I've been taking finasteride, but have been reluctant to use minoxidil for fear of shedding coverage. I think you just have to bite the bullet and take the risk.

so if I wanna go through less shedding you think propecia would be the way to go? have you experienced any shedding on it?

Same boat as well (actually just posted a whole thread about it just now). I'm not that thin, yet I don't want it to get any thinner and want to do something about it. I see success stories and then I see horror stories. 50/50... and it's kind of scary. All in all, the best option is the easiest; don't worry about it. I wish I could do that, but I don't think I can let myself go like that.

If you don't worry about it, and you don't want to get any thinner, you're in contradiction with yourself. You either move on it, or you go bald. The question is what is the least intervention necessary to achieve stability, if not growth. It seems like finasteride/nizoral is the lowest intervention, especially if your recession is light.
