So I have a question that could be dumb but I don’t know. I know the idea of the “hair loss” gene coming from your mothers father isn’t entirely true, but both my grandparent had full heads of hairs when they passed away. On my moms side my one uncle has a full head of hair that goes down to the middle of his back and he’s in his 60s. On my dads side him and one of his brother are balding in their 50s but his other two brothers are fine. I’m 20 right now and have a steady hairline. I guess what are your guys thoughts on just the genes alone

The general idea is that the genes or loci of genes that are associated with androgen related hair loss are on the X chromosome. Males (XY) only have 1 X chromosome, therefore those genes get expressed. You inherit your X chromosome from your mother. Females (XX) have 2 X chromosomes. They are less likely to express hair loss because if one chromosome has the deficient Gene variant, it can get overriden by the other chromsome; or not expressed at all. This is why certain diseases are typically exclusively male such as color blindness and hemophilia.
