I just don't understand how my hair works

I shed very little these days, never notice any hairs falling out like i did before. Like even after getting my head wet, combing hard and playing with my wet hair i get like 20 hairs max and most of them are the thin baby hairs not even the terminal ones

Yet despite shedding very low amounts of hair for a male pattern baldness sufferer, i've went from diffuse NW2 to heavily diffuse retrograde NW3A in just a month and i'm jumping over norwood levels like i'm undergoing chemotherapy. At this rate i will literally be bald within 2 years even though i'm barely shedding

How is this possible? I don't get it

Same here! It's not like I am shedding a lot. You could say that I am shedding the normal and maybe fewer hairs. The miniaturization process, the telogen to anagen ratio, and the 5AR activity/AR activity are far far more important than shedding. I experience it myself. Despite the shed on Finasteride, my hair was getting thicker, and I was having a regrowth simultaneously. Shedding does not always mean balding.

Visible loss is much better of an indicator than shedding
Yes, if your scalp is more visible, losing density, losing thickness in the hair shaft diameter, then you know that something is totally wrong.

Nah bro, it's all about microscopic pictures. Haven't you heard how the new generations go bald microscopically?
Microscopically i have a full head of hair still lol. Even now i can still see the miniaturized colorless hairs on the bald scalp if i look closely

Yes, technically we're all NW0 with hiding, shy hairs. It's kinda fucked up because if we can only revive those hairs we would have thick NW0s again

Hi there! I've been trying to find a reliable place to play for a while now. I finally signed up at vegasnow and it’s been a pretty smooth ride so far. It wasn't all sunshine at first though, as I hit a bad patch where I lost most of my initial deposit, but I stuck with it, played a bit riskier, and eventually scored a nice win. They really know how to treat players from Australia with those special rewards. Definitely worth a look if you're into this kind of thing.
Thanks for sharing this!

What you're describing makes sense once you separate two different things: shedding and miniaturization. Pattern loss mostly isn't hairs falling out, its hairs shrinking. Each cycle the follicle puts out a thinner, shorter, weaker hair than the last, until it's a wispy little thing and then nothing. So you can lose a lot of density and coverage while barely seeing anything in the drain, because the hairs aren't leaving, they're getting smaller in place. The thin baby hairs you do shed are the giveaway, that's miniaturisation in action.

That said, a full Norwood jump in literally one month is faster than miniaturisation usually shows, and watching it this closely, combing hard and studying it wet every day, makes the change feel far more dramatic than it measures out to be. The only reliable way to know your real rate is the same photo, same light, same angle, once a month. The mirror lies, especially when you're this locked onto it.

The useful part is that miniaturization is reversible while the follicles are still alive, which yours clearly are if they're still producing hair. So the move is to get on treatment and slow the shrinking, not to keep measuring it. finasteride to stop the driver, minoxidil to push growth. Acting on it will do far more for you than tracking it will.
