I have some good research to share...

Hi everyone.

I'm new here and wanted to say hello and share some information I have learned.

I used propecia for close to a year mark, but then I stopped using it because of some of the reported side effects by other people. People have reported side effects from Minoxidil too, such as shedding and I don't want to use that either.

I just recently discovered sites promoting that new molecule Aminexil, and I've been very curious about it. I've read some posts here and most of the people say it did nothing for them. I've red information about cross-linking of proteins and the theory behind that sounds similar.

Here are the Aminexil products references:

Here is another product: Maxilene

I've done some research and there is a mite that infects the hair follicle and the skin called the Demodex. There is a mite similar to the demodex mite that effects animals that causes canine mange.

The ingredient in Nizoral shampoo, is ketoconazole. Ketoconazole is an anti-fungal drug. I wonder if there is a multi-method approach happening with Nizoral where it's acting like an anti-androgen / anti-inflammatory and such..

There is also a company that has patents for a Taurine based, oral nutritional product.

http://www.freshpatents.com/Use-of-taur ... 175565.php

Taurine is an amino acid you can buy at any health food store. I've know that high amounts of L-Cysteine, another amnio acid (which the hair is 8-24% Cysteine), is supposed to produce good results. (i.e. a good diet is important). BTW the newer form of Cysteine is NAC. The interesting thing about the taurine, nutritional approach to hair loss is that the body uses it's Cysteine stores to make Taurine. So perhaps giving the body more taurine, this might down regulate the conversion of cysteine to taurine. Also the other interesting fact I found out is that cysteine or NAC, is used by the body to make the most important and vital anti oxidant, Glutathione. It has proven to elevate the livers Glutathione stores. I think high amounts of cysteine and taurine should be looked at as another treatment option. To increase cysteine in the body for hair growth and repair and to increase glutathione levels for antioxidant protection.

We all know that antioxidants (such as in green tea) have shown results. And glutathione is the bodies master antioxidant. Logic tells me that if you have antioxidants protecting your body it might help with any immune diseases associated with hair loss or other pathways. Mabey strenghten the body to repair itself? Maybe even perhaps how the body attacks the follicle in an autoimmune response and with inflammation.

I also believe, and this is my own opinion, that aerobic exercise is good for the circulation and can help the whole body even hair. Think about it, the hair has to be nourished through tiny capillaries or blood vessels. How is nutrition going to get to those hair follicles if the heart cant pump blood through those tiny little vessels? And you have to remember the blood is going against gravity to get to those follicles. To me it makes sense, and all I know is during the time when I was running, I felt good, looked good, and my hair was at it's peak of growth. and grew really fast. Another thing too, I was also eating a really healthy diet.

These are just some of my theories, and I could be partly right or maybe even totally wrong. but here is what I think can help..

Good sound nutritional diet (not junk food or high sugar, salt, and fat)
High in vegetables fruits, only whole grains. with good protein. no more junk food!

Nutritional supplements that support high cysteine (for hair growth) and glutathione levels (for antioxidant protection)

Carnosine and other nutritional supplements to combat the cross-linking of proteins. Also avoid cooking foods at high temperatures (charring, blackening, grilling and such) to avoid eating cross linked meats.

Plenty of water, like 10 cups a day

Physical exercise - But not just going to the gym and throwing some weights around, but also including exercise that gets the heart pumping really good so you can feel it your scalp. And sustains it for at least 20 min. like fast jogging or running or cycling stuff like that. To get the blood circulating to the scalp.

Plenty of rest. Stress can cause hair to fall out. Lack of sleep promotes stress. Also sleep is when the body repairs itself.

Nizoral shampoo - Because I think there is a multi-method approach going on with Nizoral. (although I'd be cautious to use it too much because some of the ingredients might cause micro-irritation in some people, which can lead to inflammation and then you're stuck fighting inflammation induced hair fall out problem)

Also there are allot of ingredients in shampoos and many of the topical solutions that can be irritating to some. The "paraben" preservatives, and dyes, colors and fragrances. Especially Sodium Lauryl Sulfates which are in almost all shampoos. These products could be irritating the scalp and also be causing some sort of inflammatory response which can trigger fall out or maybe even the bodies rejection of the hair, do to the inflammation. It's worth considering. Here is a reference to SLS:

Environmental Working Group, a non profit organization did a really good article about the dangers in personal care products you can check it out here.

Well that's about all for now. quite a bit to read, but If I find out any more info I'll post it.

Thanks,

Tray

Very good post.
I don't know about the demodex mites. This sounds like another fake "scientifically-backed" claim.

I've found some very reputable resources of information that confirm Demodex Mites do exist.
They do exist. We have no data whatsoever showing they cause hair loss. There are millions of "mites" on your body right now. I read once that 1/10th of your pillow's weight after 2 years is actually dead dust mite bodies ... because there are so many millions of them all over your bed.

Incredibly ironic as soon as I unban the Demodex guy's IP address there are demodex threads everywhere again.

Lets drop the demodex thing and focus on real causes of hair loss, until further data comes out. Thanks for your cooperation.
