it seems like every 3 months or so I shed. Rogaine has really helped my hair the past 17 months, but every so often I just lose a lot of hair and then it comes back. I do not progress on the Norwood scale, but my hair gets thinner..

Does minoxidil do this? Cycle and shed the hairs every 3-4 months??

I'm kinda worried, fellas.

Which are the new hair comeback after shed? Terminal one (thick and pigmented) or miniaturized and short?

BTW number of hair cycle are limited.

I mean dude, you're not on a proper anti androgen. Further thinning is to be expected unforunately

I know you don't want to use finasteride, but maybe consider a microdose or RU or something. Right now you're wading in dangerous waters for someone who wants to keep his hair

I understand, but I was doing so well without one. My hair seemingly gets thinner and then grows back better and thicker....that's why I asked if rogaine cycles. I have low DHT right now. My doctor feels very uncomfortable giving me propecia and I agree. My DHT would be cut to almost low single digit levels....aka side effects

Excuse me but, I didn't understand very well your point of view

I shed and my overall density is thinner.... then it comes back like a week or two later thicker than before the initial shed. It's been happening every 3-4 months since I started and that's why my question originally asks if this is something caused by rogaine

Your haircycles are shortened due to DHT, minoxidil lengthens the growth phase and strengthens the follicle.

If a follicle pre treatment had a lifespan of 1 month it will shed and after that it might have a lifespan of 2 months -> shed again growth again and so on.

What does that mean? People are stupid because they throw the towel after 6 months without success. But the regeneration of your follicles might take years. You didn't go bald in one month so why should your follicle which suffered from miniaturisation be completely healthy after one f*****g shed.

Srsly people need to start reading more about the issues they're dealing with.

So what you're saying is this shed may very well be rogaine? I've used rogaine twice a day every day for 17 months. 0 missed applications

Those cycles on rogaine are perfectly normal. As long as dht is ravaging the cycles will get shorter though until eventually your hair will not come back after a shed.

I would suggest to drop some 30-50 mg of ru every day into you rogaine to reduce the effect of dht. (Or 1g -1.5g every month into 30ml of rogaine)

That should be a very solid regimen for you and allow you to keep your hair for years to come.

This kinda doesn't make sense. If my hair loss was progressing wouldn't the cycles be producing thinner hairs....? My cycles produce thicker ones

Used to think Minoxidil would save my hair.

Minoxidil only slows baldness down. It won't ultimately save it.

Maybe it's a combination of things you are doing.

I had a full head of hair, no thinning but a bit of a receding hairline. I have used Rogaine and applied it only to my temples for about 2-3 weeks and it has made my hairline recede even further and now it has gone from a bit of receding to being noticeable in just a few weeks. The hairs which are going away seem to be perfectly fine healthy hairs. Will these hairs grow back? When the shedding stop?

IMO minoxidil must not be used for guys with a full head of hair. It is not a preventive method for common hair loss.
