I Have A finasteride Prescription (maybe?) But After A Month My Pharmacy Still Doesn't Have It For Me.

I had my initial dermatology appointment maybe close to a month ago now. The dermatologist seemed in agreement that I could try Finasteride and (I think) she wrote me a prescription for it? It was, and still is unclear if I got the prescription. I have now revisited the receptionist at the dermatologist 4 times now and each time it seems like my pharmacy will actually recieve the prescription.
But they don't, and I'm getting a little impatient. The most recent visit, the receptionist said that a script would be sent over when (someone) got ahold of my blood work. I gave her the information that they would need, but still no finasteride at my pharmacy, one week later. :/

I'm just confused. I have anxiety and I'm sure the receptionist is sick of seeing me. But it's frustrating, do I have the prescription or not? If i do, how long do I have to wait? Obviously y'all don't know the answer to these, but do you guys have any advice. Has this happened to you before?

Why would they need your bloodwork when the dermatologist already agree to give you a prescription. Generally they write it on the spot. That is bad service/communication from that office. Tell them you want/need your prescription and to take care of it asap. If they still give you the run around go elsewhere.

I agree this is incompetent on their part. I would be threatening to leave bad reviews at this point, angry mom style.

So update:
Called to schedule an appointment, this is done by people who don't work in that building. Apparently that made a whole bunch of difference, the receptionist on the phone was actually able to clarify I never got a prescription. I don't know why the office never communicated this to me.

So now I've scheduled a new appt. I remember the dermatologist mentioned something about waiting six months for a checkup on my hairloss (she never outright said "I am holding off on giving you a prescription" which is why I was confused).

My hair does not have that kind of time. This sounds bizarre to me, why does she need to wait six months if there is already obvious recession? If I was a Norwood 1.5, I could understand but I am an obvious Norwood 2. (My hair still looks full, but it won't forever)

I just feel like I've been put on the back-burner of this office's priorities and some days I feel hopless.

She doesn't seem against the usage of finasteride at all, she has mentioned it as an option for me. Do you guys think she will give me trouble if I plainly state, "I am concerned about what the state of my hair will be in six months (five now) and would just like to start my prescription now."

@hopeforhappiness I'm worried I may end up in a situation like you did, where I will actively lose hair the longer it takes to get this prescription. :(

Just be upfront and say you've done your research, know the risks and would like to start treatment now.

@re17 Have you tried just going through Keeps or Hims? They're super easy, and it's all online so doesn't require a doctors visit. Just snap some pics of your head, complete a questionnaire, and within 24 hours they'll get back with you.

Incognito man has a good idea. I’m not sure if keeps or hims in particular have a consultation fee (lots of these places do) but unless your insurance is covering all these derm visits the consultation fee will still probably be half of what a visit to the derm normally costs.

Get a script online.

Kind of related to this I was going to go see a derm for a prescription for propecia too soon. If I get a script from a derm could I have it refilled from my normal doctor from now on even though he didnt prescribe it? Or could my doctor say no, and I have to keep seeing a derm plus a normal doctor?

Some people in healthcare or everywhere I guess can be pretty incompetent because they dont answer to anyone. If you cant remember what you said or follow up on things you shouldnt be doing that job
