thank youJayMan said:badasshairday said:Rogaine or propecia
if he is using rogaine he should be using propecia as well. rogaine won't stop hair loss.
jackson your hair loss is not that bad, your hairline is same as mine, maybe a norwood 1.5 you don't have even close to a full island yet.
u saw someone like me before?JayMan said:he may also just be getting a mature hairline and not balding.

The Gardener said:I'm a big minoxidil proponent, completely disagree with the assertion that it doesn't stop hairloss because it has certainly worked for me
The Gardener said:I think finasteride would be the best and first option for you, but I am hesitant that you should even dabble in that at this point.
[I would pick up some nizoral shampoo (at your local market) and start using it twice a week. Then, over the next several months, keep an eye on your hairline and notice if you see any further degradation or loss, or if you are starting to feel any signs of itchiness or irritation that were not normally there before. If you do, then, you might consider finasteride.
Yep, I know what you are saying, and its true that minoxidil's regrowth properties have a diminshing curve, and begin to only serve as offset to the continuing loss. But, it has been great for me, regrew the corners of my upper temples and made my center forehead "isthimus" a lot thicker and more styleable. Despite the fact that the regrowth has either stopped or slowed to a hair-by-hair crawl, I'm maintaining cosmetically significant and acceptable results.JayMan said:What part of minoxidil stops hair loss? It thickens existing hair and can regrow in some cases, but it doesn't block 5ar and it doesn't inhibit DHT. Perhaps you'd have more hair at this point had you used finasteride all this time. You may be above baseline from where you started, but maybe your gains from minoxidil were hiding the fact that you were still losing hair. That happens to a lot of people.
Yeah, I don't disagree with you and in fact agree that finasteride would be his best first weapon to use. My concern is timing... most people don't lose all of their hair in a continuous, straight-line time frame, and usually lose it in fits and spurts, periods of recession bracketed by periods of relative maintenance. I am just wondering that if this initial recession is one event that has come and gone, and his next period of recession won't happen for several more years, he may be wasting some money in the meantime.JayMan said:he should see a derm and i think the derm will recommend him getting on propecia. as i said, he is Asian and he's receding at that age? it's bad news. propecia will help him keep his hairline for some time.

The Gardener said:I chose not to dabble in finasteride. NOT because I'm one of these side-effects obsessors, but rather because I don't like taking anything internally. It's just a thang of mine, I even avoid aspirin unless I've REALLY got a splitting headache, and I never take cold medicine when I am sick. Call me crazy, I know I am!...

Many people get a slight maturish recession at age 19, and keep their hairline right where it is for several years before the next stage of recession kicks in. Some people maintain this maturish hairline for the rest of their lives! I guess I am of the belief that someone with an approximate NW1 should be a bit hesitant before starting on a regimen unless they are seeing some definite signs of an impending NW2.
The nizoral recommendation wasn't intended as a stand alone treatment, rather, it was a preliminary treatment to try to improve the scalp environment and reduce any residual irritation that may have been caused by his initial recession.
