Huge damn zits?...

Anyone who has read my posts on my expereinces with the big three knows that so far i am very happy with the results Im seeing.

What I wanted to ask was, since starting Propecia, I have been getting huge nasty zits all over my back, shoulders and back of arms. They are those really inflamed kind, that dont have a head to pop. Sorry to be kinda graphic but what i wanted to know was, could the Propecia be making whatever outbreaks I was having before, worse?

I have heard some guys mentioning that their skin actually got better after starting finasteride, do some guys experience the opposite effect?

Yes, Same thing happens to me but not to your extend. However, I may get one here and there but the graphic description matches mine. I've used rogaines for a couple years and it wasn't until I added Propecia that I got those zits. I've only had like 5, but it's eas yto determine from normal pimples. These are king. good luck!

I have acne that comes and goes. I would say when i first started Propecia, the fist 2 weeks, a lot of acne..

Then for 3 months not 1 zit.

Then for the next 2 months, an occasional zit, but not like before i started.

Anymore opinons welcomed, these things are driving me nuts. Anyone have an idea how to get rid of these things with any over the counter drugs?

i have no history ever of acne, yet i have had the occasional pimple show up on my back throughout my propecia use. Nothing terrible. Just 2-3 pimples here and there.

As mentioned, bomscience reflects what we've stated before. When you first go on Propecia there is an increase in free testosterone which results in more oily skin and for some, zits. This is followed by a dry spell where the skin dries out a bit. Its a pendulum, and it goes back and forth until your body's endocrine system reaches an equilibrium again. No big mystery

I developed the same thing you have, since Propecia. Its more of an under-the-skin zit that doesn't seem to stay at top level but just gets really red and sometimes big. It may not in fact be a traditional zit. Your follicles and oil glands can become engourged sometimes as well, and get tiny infections in them. Skin has a lot of structures in it that can swell up. I would see a dermatologist. They have literally about 20 different types of creams they can give you for free to apply to it. Most are anti inflammatories. Try a handful of them out and see which one helps.

Don't think these are related to increased oiliness, but could be.

Yup. The exact same thing happened to me. Within 2 days of going on propecia my chest, back and neck were covered (and I never break out in those areas). It was pretty annoying but I'm 3 weeks in now, and everything is basically clear.

If you find out that you're having issues with your face after a month or two, then your best bet is either retin-a micro or differin (if you have very sensitive skin).

I have suffered from body zits all my life though, hope this doesn't make them worse. so far I've noticed nothing.

Just get some good face cleaners and maybe some astringent if your skin is really oily.

I'm having the same problem with zits you are. I believe it's called "cystic acne". It's the same kind I used to get when I was an adolescent. Red, under the skin, big, and long in duration, with no head to pop. It was bad. I saw a dermatologist when I was 15 and got my acne cured pretty permanently with a 6 month course of Accutane. I can honestly say it worked so well, that I almost never got zits again. Until going on Propecia. Four months of Propecia undid all the work the accutane had done. The reason is complex I'm sure, but quite easy to understand. We get zits in the first place because of hormone changes in our body. Propecia screws with your hormones, big time. Hormone changes = zits. I'm hoping the problem goes away, but so far it's been about three months for me since the acne started and it's not letting up yet. We'll see I guess. I don't know what the options are for treating the zits while on propecia because it is a hormonal problem, so cleaners (while they can't hurt) probably won't do the trick. Cystic acne is not caused by surface grease, it is caused by hormone imbalances and under the skin problems so you need to attack it internally. But while you are on the Propecia, you probably don't want to take any other drugs that alter hormone levels as they will obviously compromise the results of the Propecia, and wreak further havok on your body and hormone balance. See a dermatologist. Only they can tell you for sure.

I had zits on my back as a kid and recently when I saw my derm for propecia he asked me if I wanted to go on acutane to get rid of the zits, so it must be safe to do both I guess.

By the way I read that acutane has a host of side effects including hair loss and possible liver damage.

I am treating my occasional red zits with strait Tea tree oil and a cotton ball.
