I know I've made tons of post on my hair but I would like post at least once month to see if my hair is staying the same or getting worse. My main concern is the sides of my head there some sort of split on hair where I can clearly see through to my scalp.

Nah man. About 10 months ago I posted here when I noticed changes in my hairline. Everybody said I was just overreacting and not going bald. Well 10 months later I have diffuse thinning and a big baldspot on the crown with a hairline approaching NW2 from NW1 less than a year ago. If OP is seeing changes he will most llikely start balding sooner or later depending on his family history. I wasted these 10 months of hair I could have saved by not getting on finasteride and listening to this forum.

I think, from personal experience, it is not good to ask people here if you are going bald or what type of baldness you have. You are pointing out some thin areas however they are not indicating if they are temporary, normal aging or male pattern baldness. A good derm should be able to tell you.

Nobody here will be able to tell you accurately with your hair being the way it is (very minor thinning). Half the people will say it is male pattern baldness and you need finasteride now and half will say you are fine while both sets could be wrong. Hair thins for many reasons and it is not always male pattern baldness. Especially the way your hair is. You can always use Rogaine and apply it for now.

If your hair loss is truly temporary and your hair just needs a reset then you do not need to use it for life. If it is due to male pattern baldness which is considered by most to be a chronic condition you would. Since Rogaine is just a growth stimulator and is very effective for a lot of people it would be a place to start. Just beware that the hair loss can get a lot worse with it before it gets better.

Retinoid is right. Time spent seeking diagnoses from others is time wasted and hair lost. No derm good or bad will tell you you have male pattern baldness until you are further gone and this may be hair you'll never get back. I would start on once daily minoxidil only in the thinning area and acquire some ketoconazole shampoo. Rogaine is a life long commitment IF you have male pattern baldness. And you won't know if you for sure have it until you lose more hair. Do you want to wait for your condition to worsen or do you want to do something about it now... you decide.

Even your doctor or derm wont know if you are balding or not. The best person to ask is yourself and compare it to your family history. For me my dad was NW6 at 22, so it would be foolish for me to think that a little bit of thinning will only lead to a worse hairline and not going bald. But if ur family generally has good hair and only loses some hair around temple with time(which is normal) then I wouldnt be worried.

Any thinning you are noticing has likely been at least some what of a long time coming. Those 50 hairs you just lost in the shower made very little of a cosmetic difference. However 50 in the shower in the morning can mean that you are losing more hair throughout the day. And every month of this will start to make a little difference... it all adds up. You should start rogaine. Like now.

Today is probably the first time you've noticed. One bit of important advice I would give is to not drive yourself insane counting hairs everyday. This will increase your anxiety and take a toll on every aspect of your life. Now that you have a better idea where you stand, there's really no reason to count hairs again until your'e three months into a new treatment in order to access whether or not its working. Being aware of all the hair fall during this time is only counter productive. Especially considering some of the hair you describe may not be a product of male pattern baldness. It is normal to shed a littler bit, everyone does. But if your'e noticing thinning or receding then telling yourself 'its probably fine, I must be a big shedder' would be denial and denial only leads to baldness. You're going to have an emotional response to losing your hair but you can take comfort in knowing that your'e doing something about it. Posting here being the first step, second and third being rogaine and ketoconazole shampoo. Can I ask how old you are ?
