How to use self-tanners with hair systems?

How long up near the hairline do you put them? I imagine they would ruin the bond, so I've always left an untanned gap there. Also cleaning the hairline from dirt will lead to the self-tanner also dissolving away. Any solutions to this? How do use a self-tanner and a hair system at the same time?

Is spray tanning better? Never tried that, but I guess it would also ruin the hairline bond.

Spray tanning has the same chemical as self tanning lotions/gels/foams. It's just more "convenient." No, it doesn't ruin your bond.

I moisturize every day right up to my hairline & apply self-tanner often.

Doesn't the spray hit you with force?

Hard to believe that an oily substance doesn't affect the bond :/.

@Fanjeera: Don't you moisturize, use SPF?

The force is irrelevant unless you're using Walker 1522 Tape, the worst adhesive I've used ;)

I don't find any of the concoctions, particularily the spray tan ones, to be oily. The spray tan ones dry rapidly and oil wouldn't work with that.

I've never tried an oily self-tanner. I know body builders use a product called dream tan, which isn't a self tanner, but washable instant color like painting yourself with dark makeup.Which is exactly what it is: Dark Color mixed w/ Petroleum Jelly, to define the wearer's muscles. That's the only "oily" tanner I know of, and it's very oily.

Also, when I shower w/ a hairpiece, I always wear a shower cap. After that, I moisturize, with the tap on, the moiturier doesn't hit the hairlne.

Why don't you self tan in between gluing your hairline?

I moisturize, but I don't hit the hairline with it. I stay quite low on the forehead with my moisturizes. Creams are not very oily, but still they have some oilier components in them than water.

If I actually put self tanner on my scalp, wouldn't that lessen the bond?

No, but it barely lasts on the scalp. Lasts well on the body, not so much on the face, and not at all on the head.

I understand you are reattaching daily? That's why you don't maybe care about the bond lasting as long as I do. I reattach once a month and really need to have a max good bond for that long time.

Does spray tanning color the lace? Anyone else have any experience with spray tanning?

The color spray tanning hits you with is two-fold in action. The liquid contains a chemical which, after several hrs, develops a week-long (or so) can on your body. It sticks to your skin.

But the liquid also has an immediate darkening agent in it - something that washes off with soap and water.

So the answer is no, it will not stain. It make temporarily add a tinge of color but you can just wipe it off.

I do it all the time. No big deal, whether you're using lace or poly.

Okay, I guess I will have to try. Won't hurt. Any extra wiping is also not very good for the longevity of the bond, but a good complexion is the most important aspect of physical attractiveness perhaps, so worth the sacrifice.

Do you spraytan yourself or go to a salon?

this reminds me of someone who worked in the same building I did that wore. He must have gone to the beach one weekend and did a re-attachment afterward because there was a good few centimeters of white skin where the piece had been attached; he did not re-attach the same position as before he sunbathed.

You can use lotions/gels/mouses/sprays bought from the store, or you can waste your money and go to the salon
