I am 19 and have been seeing some hairloss for about two years, but have kept it back pretty well with rogaine, nizoral, and recently revivogen, but i want to get on propecia since lately it has been getting worse.

however, when i went to two different dermatologists, they said they weren't comfortable prescribing it to someone my age because of the possible side effects and effects on hormones. my mom, who is a doctor, is also against it.

it seems like there are plenty of people my age (at least on these forums) taking it and doing fine. so my question is, how can i get a prescription? obviously i need to go to a doctor who will do it, but i have never made a doctors appointment before (yeah yeah...) do i just call up some dr in the phone book and say i need an rx? how does it work with insurance?

kind of a stupid question i know, but any help would be appreciated.

also, i am a little sketched out by these overseas pharmacies, and would prefer to get it with a legit rx at a local pharmacy.

I assume you live in America from your mention of insurace. In UK it's fairly simple.

I'd just book an appointment with a different doctor (If like the UK, you'll need to go in first to register). And just insist on a prescription, tell you've read up on the sides etc. and see what they'll do. 19 year olds should be fine. As far as insurance, I've been told firms won't pay for Propecia....but will Proscar - However, it will probably be more difficult to do it this way. A lot of docs won't give you a presciption of Proscar since it's not technically for hairloss (Despite being the same thing), could be classed as 'fraud' etc. Not to mention the insurace company wondering why a 19 year old needs medication for BHP.

I could be wrong about any of the above since I don't live in USA, but thought I'd reply anyway so your post will be bumped and someone else may reply.

I'll also assume you live in the u.s. since I do. Just grab the phonebook and look under dermatologists. Pick one in your area and call and ask if the doctor treats male pattern baldness and if they take your insurance. If you don't have insurance then you can ask if you could just pay out of pocket, that is if you could afford it. Make an appointment and when you see the Doctor just explain that you know the side effects but have decided to try it anyway and if you do experience sides than you can just stop the meds. If he/she refuses to write you a prescription which I don't think they will then ask if they could refer you to someone else in the field.

Hey you might even be able to buy it online, I'm not sure though I never looked into it.
