How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

I've read many many times that shampooing your hair every day or even multiple times a day is bad for it. Is this really accurate? Lately, I've been showering 1-2 times a day, after I workout and in the morning. I've noticed I have way less scalp itch now. What do you guys think?

It depends on your hair. I get oily hair on the 3d day. So i have to wash my hair with shampoo 3 times a week.

yeah three times a week for me too. getting those natural oils is healthy so shampooing a lot will take them away which leads to unhealthy hair. also about hair loss, it's mostly genetic ,shampooing won't cause it. it will just weaken your hair in a way.

I also take about 2 showers a day but only wash 2x per week with Nizoral shampoo. Don't wanna overdo it.

By my point of views, if anybody washes their hairs twice a day it will weaken the roots of hairs because roots hold some essential oil for their growth and nourishing scalp. it is okay if they will be washed twice a week.

I wash majority twice a day, I'll have a day or 2 during the week where I just wash it once, but pretty much every time I shower which is 2x a day. Apparently it "strips your scalp of natural oils" idk about that but I know that my "natural oils" are causing my hair loss so I'll take my chances.

I've been washing my hair twice a day since I can remember

I did an experiment with this where all I used was water.

I quit that because I think I was developing a fungal infection on my scalp and had a lot of dandruff.

Tried again with shampoo and I did notice my hair looks better if I only shampoo it 2-3 times a week after a couple of months. I use conditioner only the other days.

If it's bad I don't know, but it does look good if I only use it every 2-3 days instead of every day.

I've heard of people switching to natural shampoos with no harsh chemicals which seems logical to me.

probably depends on how much you sweat

How often to wash your hair? As often as you like washing it. When it feels dirty/greasy to you and you want to clean it. Its like asking how often should I take a leak? Whenever you want to go.
There is no deeper answer, and it doesnt prevent/speed up/change male pattern baldness at all

for me maybe once every 8 weeks. I find exercising is of absolute importance when it comes to hair health, it always feels so much healthier and less greasy, must be those natural oils.

Shampooing never felt right for me. Its probably okay if you have thicker hair or long hair but it leaves my hair stark dry and there is absolutely nothing I can do with it unless I use hair products which I don't like using.

Washing less with shampoo is better.

If you are constantly stripping natural oils from your scalp, it can't be good for your hair. I used to wash twice a day as well because morning routine then work out in the evening. I can tell this period of my life made my hair dry, limp, damage easily. I went back to doing once a day but still for me, I was over washing.

About 2 months ago I tried to do 4x a week max, so still showering everyday but instead of using shampoo, just rinsing my hair with water. Worked well for me and now hair feels slightly stronger, I assume I will have to do this long term for a chance to reverse the damage from overshampooing.

Does anyone here use rogaine? because my hair is unworkable after a night of sleepin with the foam on my head, do diffuse thinners agree that their hair looks better when they wash their hair LESS frequently? Id definitely consider this route considering ive been washing my hair 2x a day since i can remember.

Yes, I always use my hairloss treatments like stemox and minoxidil at night time, then wash in the morning. I have straight hair so very prone to bed hair so I have to wash my hair in the morning, I used to wash very frequently, 1x even 2x a day with shampoo, but I stopped shampooing everyday now and I personally feel that my hair looks better when washed less frequent.

Saying that, after the WATER ONLY days the hair is still moderating oily, I usefully will plan my shampoo cycle depending on social plans, i.e if I am home all day then I won't shampoo.

oh i used stemox and minoxidil too, but it didnt agree with me at all, in fact i started devloping swelling in my feet and also got breathing issues, I promptly switched to this natural protocol thanks to my partner who got me in touch with an ayurvedic specilaist. this Doctor gave a rejuvenation kit with homeopathic pills and an hair serum. The kit comes with a supercool roller to avoid greasiness on the hand. I've been taking the Optimal Hair Rejuvenation Kit for over 2 months now. My hair is so much better and healthier. the pills also seem to improve my hair follicles from within. For me nature works. I also shampoo daily btw.

It's individual. I need to wash it every 2 days, sometimes I let it go 3-4 days. My hair gets very oily very fast.

I strongly believe that if you're prone to male pattern baldness, not washing every day and leaving sebum in your scalp is a bad idea. I don't think it's a coincidence that when i used to wash less than once per day and may hair got all oily i felt that i had more scalp inflammation and i was losing more hair.

You cannot just make 1 rule that will work for everyone. Washing with shampoo everyday might be bad for some, and it might be the best option for others.. Try both and find out what works for you.
Either way, I do not believe that it could cause hairloss unless you are using a very unhealthy shampoo :D
