How often do you use Nizoral?

I have been on 2% nizoral for about 4 months now and started doing every MWF but have since gone to every other day. I am not sure if I am applying it too much however the instructions say 3 to 4 times a week. Will applying it every other day cause more harm than good?

If you tolerate it's ok. Some people use it every days.

I use a 1% keto shampoo (Revita) every days. And 2-3 times a week I put nizoral 2% on my scalp for about an hour (like in the ketoconazole hair growth studies ).

WOW! You leave it in for a whole hour? You're lucky. I can only apply it for 5 mins and then I have to wash it out or my skin suffers.

The directions on the nizoral bottle say a few minutes then wash out... I'm curious to know how long you guys actually leave it on the scalp before washing it off.

Cheers.

sometimes I forget to wash it while on the computer and it stay for 2-3 hours XD

interesting, have you seen any improvements from leaving it in that long? I only do 5 minutes at a time although i am sure I could leave it in longer. I am afraid that if anything using it so much may do more harm than good.

5-10 minutes at a time, twice a week on average. Followed by a quality conditioner, since nizoral seems to fry the hair quite thoroughly.

I can't say how well it works, because I'm using a lot of stuff, but it can't hurt (if you tolerate keto). The studies with the best result had them using keto cream for about an hour, I see no reason why it shouldn't be used like that if you want maximum results.

keto cream isn't the same as keto shampoo. The shampoos can do harm to the scalp because of the other ingredients in the shampoo (usually the things that make it foam up).

Also, great results were obtained with just keto shampoo when used as directed and we should not discard that.

No explanation to back it up ?

Like Californiaocean mentioned, the study used a keto cream instead of a shampoo. The shampoo has other harsh chemicals in it and leaving it in for an hour or more doesn't sound like it's the best thing for your scalp. I know we are using 2% Nizoral off label for another use but we have to also keep in mind that it's a powerful anti-fungal agent available only with a prescription in some countries. Coupled with the other harsh ingredients, I personally feel that leaving it in for an hour or more is excessive.

Yes I admit it is a risk. I did some research on the ingredients, it didn't seems that bad. I guess you don't have results if you are not taking risks when fighting hairloss. Some stuff works well on some people while they don't on others. I never had problems taking keto.

No, what I was trying to say that there is a study that shows ketoconazole shampoo, used for 5 minutes every day, was effective in regrowing hair.

I think the sulfer based compounds (sulfates, sulfides, sulf-etc) are harsh on your scalp, even when only left in for 5 minutes. Not an expert in this but I think that ketoconazole is fine, but the delivery mechanism can be harsh.

There's no confusion in my post. You correctly replied that 'keto cream isn't the same as keto shampoo' in response to Mikazz' post about the length of time that he leaves Nizoral shampoo on his scalp (1 hour) and I was referring to that when I mentioned you. I know about the shampoo study.

Nizoral 2% every two days for 5 minutes, and on the sixth or eight day I use a gentle shampoo instead.
So every 3 days on average.

I agree with the other comments against the one-hour-shampoo, in the studies I saw about keto shampoo, patients were instructed to use it 2-4 times a week and leave it on the scalp for 3-5 minutes each time.

I wouldnt leave it on for any longer, and only a pea sized amount. I effectively fried my head and shed a s*** load of hair all over from using nizoral once a day and leaving on for 10 mins + a time.
