How much proscar should I take?

I recently purchased proscar in 5mg tablet form and wanted to get some advice on the best way to take it. Should I cut it into quarters and take 1.25mg per day? this seams unecessary to me since propecia comes in a 1 mg tablet. Does it make more sense to average it out - take four 1.25 mg pills in five days? or do you need to take the pill on consecutive days for the best results?

let me know what has worked for some of you - I don't want to take more than I am supposed to, but also don't want to take too little.

1mg or 1.25mg both are fine, it is easier to divide the pill into 4.

with 1.25 mg you may have a higher risk of having side effects.

I would suggest 1 mg.

I cut the proscar into 4 pieces, taking it 4 days and then skipping the 5th day. So I'm getting 5mg over a 5 day period, same as propecia.

When I started 7 years ago, some doctor in the newsgroups said that was the best way to take it. He said skipping every 5th day might help prevent building up a tolerance to the drug. It's also easier to just cut it into 4 pieces.

gollum88, you've been on Finesteride for 7 years? How have your results been? are you still maintaining your hair and have you been doing this Proscar skip every fifth day thing the whole time? Does anybody else agree that by taking 1/4 of Proscar for 4 days and skipping the 5th day will help your body not build a tolerance to it?

Yep, always taking the proscar this same way.

My results have been great. My hair is the same as it was 7 years ago.
I also use extra strength minoxidil and Nizoral shampoo.
I started using Minoxidil 9 years ago, 2 years before starting proscar.

gollum88, thats great news and congrats. So what was your hair like before you took Proscar and what how has your hair improved since taking it? Also how long were you losing hair before you started minoxidil and Proscar? Do you still use minoxidil twice per day or only once?
