how much and where can I get finasteride in Canada?

Hi everyone,

I live in Canada, am 21 years old, and have been losing hair density for about 3 years now. It is not a receding hairline but diffuse thinning all across the whole top of my head. I have finally taken the plunge and gone to the doctor about taking finasteride and minoxodil. However, before giving me a prescription, he is confirming with the dermatologist that no other factors are contributing to my hairloss (which doesn't make sense btw because I already checked my prostate, did blood tests and everything).

Anyways, after getting a prescription, I was wondering what I would expect to pay monthly for a daily dose of finasteride? Would it cost cheaper to order online or a pharmacy and would online sites even be reliable?

It would be really appreciated if you guys can help me out with these questions!

I've been waiting for an answer to the same question for quite some time, bump for ya brotha.

If you haven't done so already, ask your doctor for a prescription for the 5mg version of Finasteride (brand name: Proscar). These pills are small, but they can be cut into quarters. A 90-pill prescription will last you about a year by using this method.

If you have a Costco pharmacy near you, you can fill this prescription for about $50. I think Walmart can do around $90-100. Make sure you get generic.

If you only have the 1mg version prescribed and can't or don't want to get a 5mg version, just do some calling around. I believe the generic version of 1mg Finasteride is available in Canada, so I would start with Costco or Walmart. I can't imagine it being more than $200-300 to fill a year prescription for this. If you are really hard out for cash, you can even cut these in half and will get basically the same therapeutic effect at 0.5mg.

Brandname Propecia runs $60-70 a month. It's a total rip-off, don't pay for it unless you have no other choice.

BTW don't shop online if you live in Canada. Almost no online pharmacies ship here, and the ones that do are much more expensive than Costco and Walmart.

So is proscar the exact same thing as finasteride then? I've been buying finasteride at shoppers/pharmaprix for 8 months at $57/mo. Can I really get it as cheap as you guys say simply with a proscar prescription?

My subscription I got is for Proscar 5Mg, not for generic proscar. Is that the one that you said I could fill for about 50 at costco?

Thanks for the responses, but where in Canada are you referring to? I live in BC and $50 a year sounds like a steal! However, would a doctor have preference over which prescription to give you, generic or brand name? And does generic do the same thing as Propecia or Proscar?
