How does topical spironolactone actually work?

I have read up on topical spironolactone on this site and elsewhere but I am still not 100% clear what it actually does

Does it just attach to the androgen receptor sites on the hair follicle thereby preventing the DHT from binding? In this way it would work in the same way as fluridil?

Does it also reduce DHT levels, testosterone levels etc in the scalp as well?

Thanks

Yes it attaches to the receptor site. Dr. Lee claims it also reduces testosterone levels in the scalp by converting it to estrogen though I haven't seen any evidence for that.
