How does finasteride cause a shed.....?

I see so many posts relating to the guaranteed shed a lot of people who have never used finasteride, but are about to, are convinced they will endure.

My question is through what process does finasteride make a follicle shed its hair (if indeed it does at all)

Supposedly it extends the growth cycles and so instead of a gradual falling out, you get more of a clump as these extended cycle folicles fall out together.

Thats the "official" reason anyhow.

Actually, it speeds the rate for hairs nearing the Telegen (resting) phase initially.

Most people mistakenly label further loss that would have happened regardless of finasteride as a shed.

I guarantee most people haven’t taken to read about a shed and haven’t a clue what one is. This is obvious if you read peoples comments on a shed that most are clueless, they simply read about sheds from other posters, further spreading misinformation. It’s frustrating that people won’t take the time to educate themselves on something they consider so important.

I guess the Propecia study itself (if this is indeed the official study), describes the shedding process the best, see:

Good link. So increased shedding could happen if finasteride does get more hair synched up on their growth cycle.

Maybe the people who don't notice a shed are just having more hairs sych up at the beginning of anagen/end of telogen than those in anagen synching up at the telogen phase. Or they are shedding more shrunken hairs than good ones.

before finasteride, i was shedding really thin hairs..... after finasteride, my sheds were mixed, thin and healthy ones....

btw, finasteride took a hit on my hair esp the hairline.. that common? will hairline return?

no, my density continued to decrease and hairs were falling out at rate similar to the massive shed i had when starting treatment, though my hair receded little during this time, the density of the hairline went to sh*t

If it's a shed, the hairs come back. Simple as that. And more than likely they will be thicker.

If it was male pattern baldness continuing on it's way, they may not come back. Unless the finasteride kicks in or you use Minoxidil, then you have a shot.

how long have you been on propecia? I've been on it for about three months.. the first month or so, my hairline lost more than 50% of density.. but it didnt recede a bit...

well thats funny.. cause after 2 weeks of finasteride use, it seemed like my male pattern baldness started... (I used to be a thinner)

been using minoxidil for three years... i used to use it as a gel cause i can long frizzy hair... now, after the thinning, its a pain to put in on cause you can see right through the hair...
