How does a receeding hairline happen?

does the whole hairline usually move back (thin) in unison, or do individual stands randomly start to thin and you get holes in the the hairline?

i think it's the latter coz i've an irregular hairline and right side of my temple is receding more than the left side. If the whole hairline did move back i'd not have looked as bad as i am right now!

varies from person to person

my temples were destroyed by the time i was 19, but the center of my hairline stayed put for a while. then my crown went then it started thinning diffusely over my mid scalp and then finally the hairline started going back in the middle too.

This is all about FOLLICLE's sensitvity to dht. A single follicle makes about 2-3 hair which miniaturise.
