How do you know if you're a diffuse thinner?

I know that I'm definitely losing hair on my hairline (norwood 1.5-2 at 21).

But, I also dye my hair and I've heard that it can make the hair thinner.

After giving myself a quick trim on a small part of the back, I noticed that there's like a few hairs in particular that are extra thin compared to the others. I even managed to pull out one piece of hair that's thin at the end but normal halfway down (near the roots). These hairs seem to lose some of their pigment as well.

Could this be the result of bleaching my hair and causing damage to a couple of shafts, or is it my flawed genes making me diffuse? Not all of the dyed hair are thin (just like 1 out of 30).

My hair still looks thick, without noticing any loss of density...

Lol trust me you will know when you are thinning - every guy knows when his hair changes. Sorry for the terse reply, but it is that simple.

Again, I didn't really know if it was from the bleaching or not. But hell, if those are the early symptoms then yes, I'll get on the meds without hestation!

woah woah hold your finasteride flavoured horses, sunshine.

if your hair is thick at the root and thin at the tip, then it sounds like you're right; bleaching has caused some damage.

Now don't go all obsessive and paranoid on this one; but how much hair would you say falls out your head a day? I've heard it's usual for a non-balding guy to lose 100 a day. Do you see a lot when you shower/when you run your hand through your hair/on your pillow?

If you want some decent solid advice that you can trust, then post some clear photos of your hair and we'll tell you if you're thinning or not.

By the way, a diffuse thinners' hair typically looks quite a bit worse when it's wet. So take pics of dry and wet hair...

It's hard to say. I'm estimating maybe like 30 or so per day. Yes I do notice more falling out when I run my hands through the hair.

I've lost about 2/3 of an inch from my juvenile hairline in the past 2 years (I'm only 21). And I've talked to a dermatologist on this. She recommended me Propecia just in case I am losing it.

During those 4 or so months when I was taking it, it was somewhat weird. I'm aware of the shedding, but my hairline in particular seems to be heading north faster than when wasn't on it. Could be my imagination though.

Sucks that I couldn't ride it out. Sexual side effects kicked in, so I had to stop a few months ago. Still have like two bottles left, and I'm also looking into alternatives such as spironolactone and prox-n.

As soon as I borrow a digital camera, I'll take a few shots for you guys to stare at.
