how do you evaluate the credibility of findings

This section has been depressing unfortunately... no news it seems.

Anyway, I am an academic, but not in medical. Whenever there is a claimed "breakthrough" or major finding in my field we check where this was published. Top journals are more trustworthy.

Are any of the claimed promising findings recently (from replicel, histogen, follica,...) published in top journals ?

I was just checking Histogen and they reference their publication in JDD but this journal's ranking in Dermatology is 45th !

http://www.journal-ranking.com/ranking/ ... ListId=291

for those of you in the medical academic circle, do you think this is bad news or is this normal since it is based on first phase study only ?

Thanks

Replicel has no claimed findings in humans yet. Obviously the findings in mice were promising enough to go through with human trials.

I understand that impact factor could be overhyped sometime but put your self in their place. If you are able to publish your results in well renown journal why would you chose number 45.

Because the other journals wouldn't accept it I'm sure. There are many small biotech companies out there. All of them will say they have promising research behind their product. A few will go on to discover something great, but most don't. I wouldn't put much faith in any one of them, but hopefully out of all of the companies working on a treatment, one will come up with something worthwhile.
