So ive been curious how people decide what treatment they go with? did you go to a derm, trichology etc and have them outline a treatment for you? or did you decide to go ahead based on your own knowledge and research? I'm at a crossroads as to just what i should do, if i should go ahead and start some form of treatment, or just leave it, im at a point where my hair loss isnt obvious, and people that i've asked dont think im balding at all, however i feel it has definetely went thinner.One of my concerns is that i start treatment and end up worse off than before i started. I went to a trichologist a few days ago and they sent me this report after my consultation
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your concerns were
For approximately the last 3 years (age 27) you feel –
* that you have receded at the temporal region
* lost density at the vertex area of your scalp.
* That your scalp has become visible.
Notes taken
* You have not been experiencing excessive shedding of your hair.
* You visited your GP but felt that they were not helpful.
* Your father and brothers have Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPHL)
* You do not have blood pressure problems that you are aware of.
* You visit the gym 3 times a week.
* You have lost approximately 15 pounds over the course of 4 months,
following a calorie restricted and high protein diet.
Medication
You are not currently taking any medication although you are taking
supplements –
* Multi vitamin
* Omega 3
* Zinc
* Vitamin D3
* Saw palmetto
* Stinging nettle.
* B-complex High strength
Investigation
Today I carried out a physical examination using a digital derma scope. What
we found was-
* Lots of follicles presenting multiple Terminal hairs, some up to 3.
What is what we like to see.
* Healthy scalp
* Some miniaturisation at the temporal region and on the vertex.
Diagnosis
I am confident that what we saw today was evidence of MPHL. Combined with
our conversations and images from the digital derma scope.
As I explained MPHL begins and puberty and it is down to an individuals
genetic make up to how there hair loss progresses. One cannot be certain of
how a persons hair loss will progress but factors such as –
* The amount of multiple terminal hairs
* The fact that you are 30 years old
* Your father and brothers hair loss was much more advanced a lot
younger than you are ….
Taking all of this into consideration it is my assumption that you may not
progress to full hair loss. You may possibly thin and receid more but
doubtfully to the level of your family, I’m afraid only time shall tell.
Treatment
You mentioned that you wanted to start some form of treatment- it is my
suggestion that you possibly start on Minoxidil 5% .
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The woman i spoke to during my consultation said to try minoxidil first, and any form of anti-androgen should be a last resort, however its my understanding that minoxidil only works to a certain point, and i would have to eventually introduce an anti-androgen into my regimen anyway.
Check out my other thread and you can get a clearer picture were im at in terms of my hair loss.
I just want a detailed plan that i can follow
