How did it take me so long to realize?

That I'm going bald.
Family History, Dad is bald, his dad also bald.
Mom's dad is 82 and only starting to lose hair now due to Cancer Treatment, but otherwise had full thick white hair.

I bought into the myth of your mother's father being the one who determines it for you.. Never thought I could go bald until suddenly I noticed, something wasn't right up top, it's has been difficult styling the back of the hair, it just didn't seem as long, thought my previous haircuts were botched or something. I was horrified when i took these pictures.

Anyways heres a picture of the way it is now before a haircut, I cant believe i went out in public like this!

After shaving it, not short enough: When I run my hands through my shaved head the area near the crown feels less rigid.

I've been working out religiously for about a year and half, wondering if this has anything to do with it?

I'm sitting on the fence, about treatments, Rogaine Maybe, But I'm sort of leaning towards letting it go and keeping a shaved head, I hope my head shape supports this. My hair type has bothered me its so wavy and thick, really hard to style it

Your hair looks very healthy and strong. But you should hop on finasteride , by the looks of it , it could help you out emensely. What age are you?

I don't know , but your hairline still looks strong which is handy since it's the hardest plave to grow back.

I don't think Rogaine is much good as a stand-alone treatment. It doesn't affect the male pattern baldness process.

The thick, wavy hair could be an advantage if you ever want to go the hair transplant route. Don't do that before hair loss is more stabilized, though.

I think I have you beat in ignorance/denial. My father, paternal uncle and both grandfathers are completely bald (NW7) and I still was balder than you before I realized. Pics in the link taken only a few months after:

At the crown, minoxidil could help for some years.

But I would think Propecia and a keto 1% shampoo could help with thickening of the crown, plus maybe Prox-n for scalp health and a little help for propecia to grow more hair. It seems like your hair it thick everywhere but the crown. If you really don't wanna go on internals, you should try Proxiphen that is a combo drug, and for the crown, the monthly expensive wouldn't be horrible. Read up on the meds, don't over focus on side effect, they effect just a few users, and can often be stopped if one for instant take Propecia every other day. Good luck.

Maybe buzz it down to a 1#, I did and girls seem to love it.

Don 't be embarrassed where it is I don't think many people probably saw it. You have a double edged sword here as your hair is very thick which makes your thinning so much more obvious (since the healthy hair is so thick). I would get on propecia and rogaine and nizoral as you seem to be diffusing a bit in the front too, I may be wrong it would be the lighting but seems you have diffuse thinning. I personally would NOT do a buzz cut or shave it down unless you are going for the full bald look as the contrast between your thick hair and the diffuse will not look good you will see it looking very different than the rest of your head and NOT make it look better. I think keeping it medium length and getting on treatment will do you the best.

Good luck,
Rich
