Hello everybody!

I’m 21 years old, and i always had sort of thin hair. For example when my hair is oily or wet you’re able to see through my scalp.

My hair is naturally pretty thin, but recently i noticed that i’ve lost a lot of volume on top. It seems like i began thinning on top but my hairline seems to be not affected at all.

Recently I experienced a lot of stress due to moving to another country, i think it might affected my hair as well.

Please let me know what do you think. Is it male pattern baldness? Or i just lost density cause of stress?

Here are the pictures (lightning, no lightning, middle part, side part, brushed back and hairline).

hairline looks perfect. 100% perfect like my hairline when I was 14 lol.
Thinning? I don't think so.. of course you'll see that "path" in the middle of your head because you split your hair and put it under strong light.

In the last picture your hair looks perfect bro.. I think you have great genetics and nothing to worry about in the next 10 years.

I know some neckbeards are going to say otherwise but IMO you have no hair loss. However go to a dermatologist if you are concerned.

Thank you for all the replies!

Glad to hear that is not male pattern baldness.

Could the decrease in volume and density happen cause of stress and poor diet?

And how to achieve density i had before?

My hair was always kinda thin as i said before, but it still feels like i decreased in density.

Thanks for your help!

Another pic,

Top of my head, wet hair.

Is it ok density?
Sorry to say it but that's definitely male pattern baldness.. And its quite bad.. Good news is we have effective treatments that work for most people. In your pic with shorter hair it looks like you are Asian? If you are then that's really good treatment wise. Pretty much all asians respond to finasteride ( a drug that helps keep your hair and regrow it ) The studies done in Japan boast a 100% success rate. Do yourself a favour and get on finasteride, I can guarantee you will at least keep what you have left.

I’m mixed (white/asian).

If it’s male pattern badelness, why my hairline is not affected?

male pattern baldness doesn't always affect the hairline. There are several different patterns floating about in the gene pool. Some may only recede with no diffusion, others may bald only at the crown and leave the hairline for last. In your case its pure diffusion. If the hair on top is thinner than the sides, regardless of pattern its almost always male pattern baldness.

Recent photos are quite telling. Looks like male pattern baldness.

We are the own best judges of our hair. Be it with styling, checking a mirror or running your hands trough your hair. You know when something is up. Consider finasteride.

Well, you don’t have to be sorry for saying it. If you know that there’s something wrong you can do something about it. It’s so much better than live in denial and realize that you have a problem when it’s already too late.

I would like to know more about finasreride.

What are the side effects? Is it safe to take it? And what is the dosage?

I guess I’ll try to save my hair, and if I can’t I’ll just shave it.

In comparison to most other drugs its a safe drug, it doesn't carry any potentially life threatening side effects. A small percentage of users ( less than 5% experience some sexual side effects like difficulty maintaining an errection, etc. You can look more into it, but please don't scare yourself off it, I'm on much harder drugs than finasteride and I can still get it up fine lol.

I envy your hair. Also the photos are taken under direct light, Almost everyone's hair looks that way in direct light. Yes, stress can cause temporary thinning and hair loss but I don't see that as well. looks absolutely fine to me.

I just saw the dry hair pictures. That may be due to stress, what's your family balding history?

Weighing in. Still good hair man.

I have long thick hair and 2 years ago noticed crown thinning that looked a lot like yours. Waited a year started minoxidil and the shed hit the temples and hairline. I am afraid of Propecia and started RU.

I’d try Propecia at your age first. Keep that Hairline and maybe recover some crown. I wish I could have felt good about Propecia then.

Got puffy nipples but nothing serious. I'm a little overweight right now so maybe that's making it look worse than it is.. Hair is too short at the moment to assess shedding but hairline isn't looking great.

Thank you guys for all the replies!

Regarding family balding history I’m not really sure. Uncle from mother’s side still has hair in his late 50’s, it’s thin, but it’s still there. My father passed away, when i was a kid, as far as i remember he had thick black asian hair.
My elder brother in his early 30s, has no problems with hair.

I naturally have a thin hair, and it appears to be more noticeable when i grow my hair long.

When I had messy, oily hair, people were saying that I’m losing it, even when i was 15. Hairs would stick together and my scalp was visible.

Recently i just noticed myself, that i have less volume.

Here are more pictures from few years ago for a reference.
