My left temple has some thinning, its not happened overnight but i get the feeling it will get worse?

Is it worth trying finasteride? Have read it doesnt work to well at older ages (im 34) and for temple recession.

Id greatly appreciate any advice

I tried it when I was at your stage. If you have a strong family history of balding and want to slow it down start using finasteride.

Its a bit of a mixed bag really. My dad was already half bald at my age. Men on my mothers side have varying degrees or recession.

How did it work for you? Were you at a similar age?

I probably noticed it a bit thinner there 4 years ago. And it seems to be a bit worse now.

I dont shed loads. Could see 15 hairs in the sink one day and maybe 40 another. Not hundreds like some report

Shedding is not a proper way to gauge male patten baldness. Your obviously thinning. If it bothers you get on finasteride, if not don't worry about it
Does a thinning spot always end in a bald spot?

I was a little older than you when I first started. I have maintained fairly well for over 15 years but I also use other treatments with it. You cannot cure it but you can slow it down. My dad and his dad were NW6's and they went bald very early in life. Dad started at a teen going bald. I am glad I started treating my hair when I did. I have better hair than most of my peers except for some hispanics and some middle eastern men. I just never had great density all my life but with hair products I can make it look really good.

Thanks. I always had good density and still do apart from this one bit. My right temple and crown seem fine so far.

Glad to hear you maintained

The best advice I can give you is to read clinical studies. When I first noticed hair loss my hair was about like yours. I cam on the forums and listened to the fear-mongering, and the bdd stuff, and the treatments don't work anyways. I lost a lot of hair. Then I started doing research, reading actual studies and I found out treatments are actually safe and effective. So I tried them, and now I wish I had done it a lot sooner.
When you mean BDD stuff, did you mean people said you had BDD because your hair looked really good with no signs of balding?

Actually, good density to me is more like what hispanic men have. I had the exact same amount of density as you did at your age. I just see so many hispanics in my area with density so thick you could barely see any scalp if their hair was wet. My threshold for density became slightly different when I saw what above average density looks like. I think the jet black hair helps give the illusion too they have super thick density. My hair color was like yours.

Yes. Then a year later I was NW3 heavily diffused.
I am sure I was not one of those guys who told you not to do anything. Too bad you never PM'd me. I would have told you about my situation and I have BDD. I have sympathy for those who have BDD because I know the thought process. It's really bad because you have this voice inside of you that keeps repeating over and over again how bad you will look when you go bald. And what's really worse is when you are treating the hair loss and you are still getting worse. It's where fear becomes a reality.

Yes i know what you mean. Some do seem to have very thick black hair. Mine is thicker than my dads, he had fine whispy hair. When combed forward wet you can hardly see the thinning even under light with hair an inch long. Its just a small patch

Your hair now is what my hair is now. So you can see I am still doing good. We have almost the same exact density.

Nah. I went on btt, and they said finasteride will make your dick fall off and never work again, and you don't have hair loss it's just a mature hair line, and no doctor will give you a hair transplant to lower your hair line. I knew I was thinning though, because I knew how thick my hair was before. Oh well. I'm slowly getting my crown back, and then I'll get a hair transplant.
I think your hair looks good so far.

Thanks. As long as I'm moving in the right direction I feel better.
You are a good example as it's never too late to try. You definitely are a success story. Your density has improved over the past year. Shows how you have to be patient with hair loss.
