I always thought i was starting to show signs of typical male pattern baldness but now im not sure. My hair line hs receded a bit at the temples and is thin in back around my cowlick... but it is also very thin over the entire top of my head.

I was recently shampooing in the shower when i noticed ALOT more hair in my hands then normally. I then realized that hair was falling out from the back and sides of my head. Whenever i pulled on my hair in the back and sides of my head some came out. Is this normal with male pattern baldness... i was concerned because even people that seems to be compleatly bald have hair on the back and sides of their head.

should i be concerned?

the only other things that i can think are sort of wierd about my hair loss is there are rarely hairs on my pillow when i wake up in the morning... but i do notice hairs falling out periodically over the day.

also i notice alot of hairs that are much shorter than the hair on my head all over... these hairs are either breaking off or short hairs that are regrowing and falling out

is all this normal?

You may be thinning all over. I definitely have male pattern baldness, and you probably do also. I have thinning temples and thinning above the ears etc. ( where people usually start noticing their first white hairs) and about halfway down on the sides of the head. Generally on the back of the head, thinning is on the upper portion as expected, but does extend down in a patchy manner somewhat. I still have decent enough coverage, that none of this is very noticeable to others.
