Bryan,

I personally feel that at 18, there may possibly still be some development going on. Who knows if some guys still need that DHT at that time of there life to optimally develop, because they started later. I've seen guys at at 18 still grow inches, and you sure as hell want you organs to follow suit. Going back to the pseudo's, who obviously lived somewhat normal lives, did have developmental problems. But, again some guys are men at 16.

I guess it really come down to the individual, and how confindent they are that propecia will not be detrimental at that stage of their life. And also how badly they want their hair. Tough choice.

My Bad. It makes sense, because I would guess that the DHT and hairloss connection had already been made.

I understand and fully agree that the earlier you start the better. I just think at 18, it should not be neccessarily be the first treatment of choice. I'd hate to see this guy die a bald virgin. However, he's a big boy. And by the way you shot back Bryan I would assume that you feel it's perfectly safe for 18 years olds to begin finasteride. I am not saying it's not safe, I don't know enough about the drugs or seen any long term data.

good lad bob marley! il vouch that regular sex does a lot for your confidence and takes your mind off the hairloss issues while your letting your regimen go to work. at least once or twice a week! go on my son!

Remeber though it was discovered more or less from treating prostates through DHT inhibition.

WRONG. Absolutely DEAD WRONG!

Using finasteride to treat balding definitely was NOT any kind of accidental discovery. Merck was well aware of the potential for using 5a-reductase inhibitors for hairloss even before finasteride was synthesized in their laboratories for the very first time.

[quote="bob marley":e399e]It was certainly not meant for treating hairloss in 18 year olds.

The earlier you start using finasteride, the better the chance that it will stop the balding process. However, I also have some general doubts that Kenneth is really suffering from true male pattern baldness. I think he should check with a Doctor before starting finasteride.

Yes, even I haven't seen a doctor yet, I im not certain if it is male pattern baldness, the hair on my sides is very sparse growing, and the hairs are twisted along the fibre, like beard, but in general I'm thinning over the whole head, some places in patches, but the thinning is most noticeable on the crown (because the hair lays in different directions). But since there's balding in family history, so it's obvious that I have male pattern baldness, I highly suspect that at least

Taking the pseudohermaphrodites as an example, they actually didn't develop normal sized dicks due to the lack of DHT. So this begs the question(if your happy that this part of your body is fully developed) Then DHT won't be of much further use to you or most guys.

Even If my dick shrinks to the size of a 2 inch wiener due to proscar use, I still will use it to keep my hair by all means necessary :p

It's not going to shrink your dick, DHT aids in the development of your dick through puberty. This is probally why doctors don't prescribe it to youngsters. The general opinion is that DHT doesn't partcipate in a mans development anymore after puberty

"Then DHT won't be of much further use to you or most guys"

Though I partly agree with this statement, it is not 100% true. Unless you have studies to back this up. I know there have been many showing that DHT is relativiley useless, however the human body is very complex, and many speculate DHT is involved in a lot of processes. Sexual health for starters. Obviously some guys that get sexual side, have a great need for whatever DHT is doing in this respect.

I think it's a fallacy to jsut dismiss DHT so easily like that. but who knows.

Kenneth, just make a good educated decision.

I know that it can be dangerous, but I'm so determined that I will almost accept any side effect just as long I can keep my hairloss under control

In my opinion some men need DHT for sexual health, and their bodies do not adjust to it's absence. But this is just that, an opinion. The clinical data for 1mg finasteride daily show that DHT becomes redundant after the prostate and manhood has developed fully. The only difference between a man that has had no DHT all his life and a one who has, is an underdeveloped prostate and manhood. Their sexual drive is considered to be normal by comparison to any other mans.

One last thing, The shedding period that occurs when using finasteride, If there isn't any shedding period, does that mean that the finasteride isn't working?

You don't have to experience a big shed to prove finasteride is working, so the answer is no

I'm not even quite 18 yet (although i will be very soon) and i've been on propecia for a month and a half. The sexual side-effects for me were present during the first month but quickly left, and now its pretty well back to normal with a little bit decreased sexual increase. My man still's at full length although sometimes he just needs a little attention to get him there.

How has Propecia affected your hair so far?

Its going to be tough to give you a definitive answer because i've only been on it for a month and a half.. But i can tell you that although i haven't noticed regrowth it hasn't gotten worse over this period. This i take as a good sign because i was shedding so fast. I've been losing hair aggressively and usually my hair noticably deteriotates every 2 months and it hasn't. So I hope its working. One thing that i did notice though was that i endured a bad shed after 3 weeks.. but that was probably due to minoxdil.
