I had three hair transplants starting in 2004 with the last one in 2006. I was in my late 30’s at the time. All procedures were the strip harvest technique, I forget the correct name but they were quite invasive. Now years later, I’ve balded around the areas not transplanted in, and it frankly looks terrible...I would like to just cut it very close but I’m not sure how bad the scars around the back and sidea of my head will appear.
I certainly don’t want anymore cutting into my scalp and don’t think I have much of a donor area left...I have a kind of comb over now to hide prolific thinning on the back and ...would appreciate all opinions and recommendations..

I don't think it looks too bad as a comb over. The problem you have is that you cant buzz it short because of the Fut scars and a Fue would only further uncover the scars and I'm not sure your donor area will handle it so i wouldn't go down that route. What meds have been taking? Have you tried concealer or maybe a partial hair piece?

Thanks for the reply..I’ve tried concealers but they are messy and don’t seem to work well..I don’t really have any of the vellous hairs that the concealers like topik work best with. In addition, my wife tells me it’s noticeable and not to use it. I just started using minixodil on the crown area.

You may have had a recent shed from the minoxidil, dont worry it will come back 2-3 months later. The trouble with hair transplants is that they can thin out as you get older unless you keep up with your meds. Minoxidil & finasteride should be an answer for you as it will regenerate the transplanted hairs and you will also regain some other recently lost hairs (takes 2-6 months before you will notice). If you don't fancy the sides of Finasteride try RU which doesn't really have any. Minoxidil by itself wont do much.

RU is good for maintenance, Minoxidil will give you some regrowth, the older you get the higher strength is better for both 8% RU, 10% minoxidil unless you have a family history of heart problems, if you do stay well clear of both.

I really appreciate it..How often do you apply the RU? And how do you apply in conjunction with minoxidil?

Quite easy, I normally put the RU on first wait an hour put the Minoxidil on. Minoxidil takes a lot longer to dry so i only apply it on a night time before I go to bed. You can use the RU twice a day it will stop any further loss and make your hair thicker it wont by itself regrow hair you need the minoxidil for that. I find that the ru can give me dermo,(its probably the vehicle though)so i use gloves to apply and avoid touching my hair.

Thoughts on an 18 year old getting on RU? I'm not on Finasteride due to age.

Don't really know! I don't get any sides from it but that doesn't mean there aren't any most of the studies indicate that it is safe to take but there haven't been any long term studies so who knows. You can do your own research and make your own mind up about it but at 18 i would avoid RU & finasteride though just use the mixoxidil.

Alright, thanks. At what age do you think finasteride is safe anyways?

I don't think Finasteride is that safe at any age really. I think 25 is the earliest I would recommend it but I'm not a doctor so take advice from a recognised authority before trying it. A human brain doesn't finish developing until the age of 25 so messing with hormones etc isn't the best idea.
