to hair regrowing? I used to have above average thick hair that grew long. So I thought blocking the dht with an androgen blocker, saw palmetto, etc would remove some of the dht and therefore my hair would slow down shedding and the balding spots would fill in since the dht was reduced. But I don't think thats happening.

Is this a correct assumption and I have to use a separate growth stimulant to see regrowth in those areas?

Or do I just need more time for my meds to work and those spots will fill in by just reducing the dht and thus behaving like it did before the dht attack?

DHT attacks the follicle or at least causes an immune response to attack the follicle, when you lower the amount of DHT in the scalp, you're giving your follicle a bit of a break and an easy time, sometimes this allows the follicle to recover and you'll get a bit of hair back.

Most people should expect maintenance from blocking DHT though, I guess it depends on how severe and recent the hairloss was whether or not you'll get regrowth.

The old way of thinking was you need to give products / treatments a year before you can evaluate whether or not they've made a difference.

How long have you been on your treatments for, and also i wouldn't rely on saw palmetto as a DHT blocker for hair loss, I love the alternative treatments but i just don't think there's enough evidence for it

On spironolactone for 4 mos and the lowest dose available 25 mg. I was on 100 mg and I saw regrowth in bald areas but spironolactone causes tumors in the breasts and uterus and I have fibroid non cancerous tumors and the spironolactone was increasing their size.

A potent anti-androgen will reverse the miniaturization process, and this will appear as regrowth. If you don't have any hairs on the bald area, it's too late to use medications.

I've been using minoxidil for about a year and Dutasteride for 3 1/2 months and so far have turned the hair clock back 10 to 15 years.

I don't doubt that assertion at all.

I have also gone from norwood 3 to norwood 2 several times after coming off and on of dutasteride!

Dutasteride is great stuff, I started out a NW6, I'm at NW5 now but I've got hairs all over my once slick scalp. The only thing is my scalp started breaking out after starting Dutas but as long as hair keeps regrowing I can deal with it, I've just started using copper peptides right before 2% Keto cream at night and that seems to be helping my scalp, I'll know more in a few days.

I agree with you here. When I took spironolactone @ 100 mg I started to see regrowth in the almost balding temples.

But using only 25mg, no regrowth just moderate shed reduction.

I'm was trying to supplement the spironolactone 25 mg with

- Nizoral 2% every 3 days
- Nioxin 1 pill a day

.... to compensate for the dose reduction in spironolactone. I thought/hoped this 'Trilogy' would reduce shedding and regrow hair in the balding and thinning spots on my scalp.

They have not. I've been on Nioxin for almost 2 mos. (Quit the Saw Palmetto)

Before I increase the spironolactone up to 50mg, I'm going to add another Nioxin pill to make it 2 a day. If that doesn't work, I'll do the 50mg of spironolactone. I hate to. But time is not on my side as follicles will close if you don't get the hair regrowing.

Meanwhile, I will continue to look for alternatives to spironolactone, either in total or even a partial reduction. The less I'm taking, the better.
