Hi all
I'm a 40 year old beginning a journey to what I hope will be some kind of recovery of my dire hair situation!
The 20s
I've always had very fine hair and a "five head", but have been OK as there was enough of it. School and university were generally OK; there were a few comments from mates about my forehead etc., but I did OK with the ladies and had no major concerns, apart from desiring a lower hairline and thicker hair. My father is NW5 in his late 60s and his dad lost hair very late in the day. Maternal grandfather was still NW4.5 when he died at 83, but my mother and father both have VERY fine hair.
The 30s
I got married to my (still) wife and we have two lovely kids. I started thinning very significantly in my late 30s and holiday photos, especially in the last 5 years, have revealed an ever-expanding bald spot until we get to where we are today...
The 40s
I tried shaving my head and liked it, but certain others weren't so keen, so - some might argue way too late in the day! - I have decided I do actually care about my hair and want to try and do something about it, so three weeks ago I started the following regimen:
- 1 x 1mg oral finasteride tablet once per day, taken with my daily multi vitamins just before bed time.
- 1 x 1ml 5% minoxidil liquid (Kirkland brand) applied all over top of head, focusing on hairline and crown.
- 20mg/g ketoconazole shampoo applied ~3 times per week, left on scalp whilst shaving
I have made recent enquiries with a couple of hair transplant clinics in Turkey, one of whom told me to take finasteride and min for 6-12 months then get back to me as my donor is too weak at the moment, the other of which told me I'd need beard and body donors and even then they'd only be able to tackle the hairline, bot the scalp.

Seems I can't insert imgur images in line? So I've tried attaching them instead. The first is from 2013, the next 5 are from today, and the last is from 3.5 weeks ago at the start of treatment.
So yeah...my hair has never been amazing, but right now it's absolutely shocking
