I haven't posted for a while. I've been on finpecia for four months, starting at .25 and moving up. I've been on 1 mg. for about six weeks. This is the worst shed by far, and the whole top of my head is transparent. I had a great flush of regrowth six weeks or so ago, but now I've got the greasy, zitty face, super high libido, and my hair is sh*t. I don't know how much more of this I can take. Toppik only can do so much. How many times do people go through these waves of hyperandrogenicity/shedding shits before the system settles down? HairLossTalk.com? Can you give me a time frame? Are we talking about an entire year, which won't be up for me until next fall? Advice, please.

Ive been on the big 3 for almost a year now. Months 2-6 where my worst months. Alot of shedding occurs during that time. Just stick with it and wait a full year. After about 8-10 months, you'll be very happy with your results, at least comparedto what you are going through now. Just know that right now is as bad as it gets.

I appreciate that. I guess I wonder whether this time it won't stop, and I'll lose it all. It's funny -- I was noticing lots of vellous hairs where my old hairline used to be about a week ago, and now...nothing. They've shed out along with the whole top of my head. Is the cure worse than the disease? Sometimes I wonder.

Thanks for the encouragement, tho. I'll hang in. What choice do I have???

These stories of shedding months into the treatment scare me because I'm still in my first month and shedding and my hair looks sh*t now. I'm going through the thinking about shaving it all off phase :) . Just worried it will look really crap. Not that it doesn't already. I dunno.

justasking,

maybe this shed is a result of changing the dose of finasteride so often. Just a thought.

I stopped taking finasteride yesterday after 2 months on it. Acne flares, libido up down, hair in out lol. I just found out I'm not comfortable (and my body isn't) messing with my hormones. And thinking about it all the time. I may go topicals.

So if anybody needs any sealed brand name Proscar....you know who to call ;)

Those sides for the first couple months are common but they usually go away. Mine did. I'm in month 4 and my body has finally balanced itself out. Keep in mind that those sides are going to continue for a couple of months after you stop taking the finasteride. Your body now has to readjust to not having it now. The result will be the same SE's. Personally, I don't think you gave it enough time...But it's your call. Hope you do well.

Thanks for that BHD. Yeah I realise my body will have to adjust to not having it. But I have skin problems without finasteride. I just feel if I'm taking something that is having a big effect on my hormones then my hormones will be up and down more than they would be if I'm not taking it. Like the peak, probably a few hours after taking it, and the lowest level 24 hours after. There is fluctuation. I realise for most people this is tollerable. And for people who never have skin problems, totally unnoticeable.

On the skin side of things I don't think I will get a flare coming off it. My understanding is it's the excess testosterone floating around in your system, left there because it SUDDENLY can't bind to create DHT, which causes your skin to flare if you're prone to it.

Coming off of it, testosterone will start to bind again, so more testosterone will need to be produced. As it's produced it will be used. There isn't going to be that whole wash of it lying around with nothing to do which I believe is the flare causer.

I may be wrong.
