OK here's my story. Around this time last year I had awesome hair, girls would stroke their hands through my hair and everyone commmented how thick and full it was, however I experienced a monster shed around this time last year. I estimate that on average I lost 500+ hairs per day and when having a shower my I lost so much it nearly made me cry. However the shedding stopped around mid-october of 2010 for me, but the damage was done and my density is crap, however thanfully my hairline is still how it was before shed, ie NW0.

What's interesting is that my density has stayed the same ever since the shedding stopped which makes me believe I may not have male pattern baldness however the decrease in density has been noticed by my parents and barber although no one else has yet commented on it because of the way I style it to conceal the loss of density, but I really wanna spike my hair which I can pull of but if the sun is shinning a lot of scalp can be seen with spikes. So do you guys reckon I can benefit from applying minoxidil only and if so which one: foam or liquid?

Nobody can answer that question. Try and see what happens. I'd go for the foam. Liquid is almost impossible to use twice daily if you've still got a head of hair.

IMO from using both and from what I have heard, the foam makes your hair more pleasing visibly, as it dries faster. I've heard the liquid is more effective, but the foam is effective for more people, and it doesn't irritate as much. I never got irritation, so I'm considering going half and half (started on liquid 16 months ago, went to foam 9 months ago).

First of all, if you're not sure you've got male pattern hair loss maybe you should see a dermatologist. If you are sure you have it and/or a doctor confirms this, I would use rogaine foam. The liquid makes your scalp very itchy and flaky to the point where it's almost unbearable. People disagree about which is more effective but for me the itchiness isn't worth a little bit more effectiveness. I can't guarantee rogaine will work for you but I think it works at least a little for almost everyone. Also, in the meantime, you can try some toppik which will cover up any scalp showing through your hair.

rogaine is a very powerful treatmeat for hairloss. rogaine is enforce the follicles to grow, even the dht presence.
i'm think rogaine is for many alopecia types, please check it.. for Androgenic alopecia, rogaine will a powerful treatmeat.

go to doctor to decide what the hairloss type you suffer. if is a Androgenic alopecia, i'm suggest you to combine with rogaine some dht inhbitor.
the dht is the main reason for Androgenic alopecia.
