Hi everyone,

I'm new to all of this and after watching a few videos on youtube I got really excited about the systems that are being offered these days. I've been doing a lot of research and trying to find a great hair system provider that is not super expensive.

According to what I read these 2 companies are recommended and have good prices: Hollywood Lace & Northwestlace.

I've contacted both with some questions and they both responded fairly quickly. Can you guys recommend any of these? Or is there another better that I should try?

Here is some additional info about my situation:

1) I'm 34yo and have hair thinning only on the front of my head, it's sort of like a triangle shaped space.

2) I'm still debating what is the best option for the material of the piece. There are so many options: swiss lace, french lace, thin skin etc etc. -- It's so important for me to have a natural looking hairline, because I do have a pointed widows peak hairline (the little that is still visible), but the point is that I'd like to keep that shape and use my hair back when possible.

3) I posted on other hairloss forum and someone told me to invest more money on a system from Hair Direct, which is so expensive, but they do have interesting videos on youtube. It would be difficult to invest on a piece that is $600, especially if it has to be replaced every so often. Is Hair Direct really that good?

Although HD has good videos and photos of their clients, I found photos in every single provider's site where the pieces look 'wiggy', which makes me very confused on which one is really the best. PLEASE HELP :(

I will appreciate any advice or tip guys. I'm really excited about this and I know I'll have to try and see but I hope I can make a good 1st purchase with your feedback.

Thanks!

D.

Hey dude

I haven't tried Hollywood Lace, but I do regularly use NorthWest Lace and can definitely recommend them. Other good places for quality and price are Toplace and Coolpiece. Hair Direct is reasonably good quality too, but I think you pay a lot for the fact that they cut the piece in for you so you can wear it straight from the box. My sense is that HD's customers tend to be older guys who don't want any fuss and are happy to take what they are given. Places like NWL have a younger clientele which is more innovative and more price and quality sensitive. HD is good for glues etc., and as you say, it has a very informative website.

It sounds like you might only need a front partial rather than a full topper. As for material, in my view lace gives a more realistic hairline and is better if you are physically active or live in a sweaty location, because it is breathable. Skin bases are better at mimicking scalp, so are good for a low density unit where you are showing a lot of "skin". They are also probably a bit easier to apply and clean. The disadvantage is that skin is not breathable, so if you sweat it gets trapped under the base. Lots of guys swear by skin, but for me the breathability issue is the clincher, so I am a lace fan. There is not much to choose between Swiss and French lace. If hairline realism is crucial, maybe go straight for Swiss.

Good luck with your researches and finding a good hair system. Feel free to keep asking any Qs you may have.

Systems can really work when you put the effort in. I don't think there is such a thing as best supplier, but there are more reliable than not suppliers.

I think the most important thing is finding a supplier you understand and understands your needs regardless of price then talking with them based on their products.

I usually pay $330 and get a very nice piece. I have used the same supplier for years now.

I know some guys that pay for 3 or 4 times as much without getting a better piece and often worse and some pay less.

You're doing the right thing... it's good to do your homework first.

It's good to have an idea of what look you're trying to achieve but in the same token, it's wise to be adaptable. Yes, we all have different requirements and expections, so that's what a custom made piece is for right? But, if you're new to this, you'll need to do a few trials before you can familiarise yourself - and be sure what you want - with density, base material, hair type, texture etc etc. And, before you order a custom made from a supplier and sit waiting patiently, how can you be sure their craftmenhip is up to scratch? Not to mention their ethic.

My advice to any new wearer. Find out what, and who, is to your liking quicker - without needlessly dragging this out - by testing their stocks first. Find a company that ticks the boxes, I.e good external reviews, good photos, social media links etc. And, expect to pay no more than £250.00. I understand this won't be to your specifications right now, but other than the template and hair colour, as a new wearer do you know this yet? And, trialing all of this with custom made systems will be time consuming, and even more disheartening if you discover you don't like the providers hair system first off. A salon can cut it down to size. And, you get to know if you like the way the systems are made. The stocks should always be made in the same productions with the same base materials, hair quality and construction.

I've tried so many suppliers in the U.K and US. My favourite in the US is Northwest Lace. I ordered a stock system from Hollywood lace, I understand they get good reviews but I thought the lace, quality of hair were awful and not as superior as they describe (I've had stock pieces from China offering more realism). Also, when I tried to return this to Hollywood lace, they wanted to first deduct some return fee (for a system not cut or worn, policy!) and they then tried to say I brushed it excessively so were deducting more money. None of that was true. They were not nice to deal with. Luckily, I claimed all the money back through PayPal. And, lastly HairDirect! I'm wearing a system from them now, they are good but it can be hit and miss. The lace seems to vary, sometimes amazing, sometimes just good. And, often I need to tweak what they've done. They're not always good with the bleach, and sometimes the wave they put in the hair is like a crimp. I'm yet to try TopLace but they get good reviews.

I came across this company yesterday hairsystems-heydecke.de check them out, looks incredible.
