I will try to make this post as short as possible. I'm a 30 year old male, and i'm concerned about my hair, I have attached pics, and I can't tell if im suffering from male pattern baldness or not. My dad and older brother are bald but they lost their hair before 30, also all the males from my dads side are bald and they all lost it before 30, however males on my mothers side all have hair, hopefully I'm fortunate enough to have inherited my hair genes from my mothers side.

It seems quite thin on the top as you can see from the pics, in the crown and in the middle, and when I run my hands through my hair it feels quite thin. The pics I attached is of me standing under light, I haven't washed my hair, my hair usually goes quite limp and flat after a day of not shampoo-ing. I've combed it down in some pics and its not that noticeable, but when I mess it up a little you can see my scalp more.

I have considered going on the big 3, before things get worse. I have never taken finasteride or used minoxidil or a ketoconazole shampoo, and i'm worried about the possibilities of sides from finasteride/propecia and I dont know much about minoxidil and ketoconazole, i've read a lot of mixed reviews of success and some even worse off than when they started treatment, which is what im concerned about. I'm considering getting a professional diagnosis of my hair before I go on any treatment, but not sure who to trust, or who to go to for an analysis as I dont want to be exploited. I Just dont want to mess up what I already have. I forgot to mention I do sometimes experience a slight itch on my scalp, but I dont know if its dht or if its something else as I only experience an itchy scalp one day after having not washed my hair.I haven't ever noticed clumps of hair falling off, when I try to pull the hair it doesn't easily come out.

Here are some pics of my hair 3 years ago when I was 27, its buzzed and I thought I was balding back then so I decided to buzz it just to see how it would look. My hairline is still the same as it was in these pics. I can't remember if it was more dense back then, but I do remember that I had a similar problem where I was able to see my scalp due to thinning.

Is it possible to maintain and even regrow hair with just minoxidil and a ketoconazole shampoo?

Is it possible that my hair could get worse during treatment and withdrawal from treatment?

I am definetely considering going on the big 3 if it is male pattern baldness. However the only place I know where to get it is from is boots pharamcy and they charge £42.00 a month which is too much for me, and with having to apply minoxidil regularly it seems like I would be spending more than I can afford on the up-keep of my hair. Just really confused as to what to do.

I'd say that this is male pattern baldness. You can purchase generic propecia for cheaper prices btw.

You can get generic minoxidil as well which is virtually the same as the much more expensive stuff.

It itches sometimes, but its quite random when it does, it doesnt itch everyday. Cant decide if i should be seeing a dermatologist, trichologist or a hair transplant surgeon
