Hi my name is james iv only just turned 20, i don't think i am actaully losing hair at the moment but my dad lost he's hair around 19, or 20 years old, and i just really don't wanna go bald whatsoever, so recently for some reason im getting paranoid and thinking im losing a bit at the front corners but compared to pics iv seen im not yet but i know its inevetible as i have very fine hair and my mom and dads side both went bald, they all do, i was wondering if i should start taking propecia or proscar to keep all the hair i got, or start using a shampoo to prevent hair loss, or thickin hair, PLEASE HELP!

thanks alot james.

Hey James,

If you are actually worried about hair loss, then you might consider a small dosage of Propecia to keep what you have got. As little as .25 mg of finasteride will help you without almost any side effect. If you are losing ground then you could still take a higher dosage.
As shampoo I recommend Nizoral shampoo which won´t do much on its own but is supportive for usage with Propecia.

Good Luck!

FFS if you don't have male pattern baldness do not take propecia. It's a hormone altering drug and it's shouldn't be taken like vitamins and as precaution just because your dad is bald. Stop thinking about your hair and go out and find a girlfriend. Because if you're not going to find it now and you do go bald later, with your mentality, you probably will never ever leave your room again.

hey i already have a gf, and im not fu<King about on here i am genually worried as im sure unless i may be over analyzing it that my corners are receiding slowly as i have been checking everyday, but im not messing about i know all about the side effects but ill admitt i am very vein, but also a bit quite & shy and couldnt bear going bald id do anything to keep my hair so am just trying to save all the hair i can by checking and want to take finasteride as soon as i see proof of receiding, could any of u help me in letting me know if u think i am, i know it might be hard with no pic but basically its like the one corner is a bit far back compared to the centre of the front hairline and the other corner isn't so far buts its strange its like the 1 corner is getting thin and looks far but the other one is sort of ok.

Put some pics up, we'll be able to give you an honest answer.

It does sound like your destined to go bald, but it may also skip a generation you never know with this.

I would also consider micro dosing as explained if your beggining to receed, .25mg is a quarter pill of propecia (or generic) a day.

You can't see if you are balding by checking every day in the mirror. Take a a good picture of your hairline and your temples every month and then compare them. Wet your hair and comb your hair forward & backward always taking pictures of your crown area and top forward area of the head. Do this every month or two and you will see if it's getting worse. If it is, get on propecia, if it isn't enjoy your life... wait you should do that last thing whether you are balding or not.

I used to worry about becoming bald since I was like 10, but seriously, don't worry about it. If you worry about it and obsess about it to the point where you look for it in the mirror everyday, you're just as stressed and paranoid as all of us who actually are losing our hair. I worried when I was younger, and when I found out I was losing my hair (I'm only 19), yeah it sucks, but why let it ruin your life before it has to, if it even does happen at all?!?

I'd be more worried about your cheekbones. How are they?

I've been on propecia since I was 20 and I am glad I started when I did.

If you're 20 yrs old and your hair seems to be falling out like it has never fallen out before then you're almost 98% likely to be losing your hair from male pattern baldness. The other factors that would be causing hairloss are very rare which include vitamin shortage (which would make your hair fall out everywhere.. not just the hairline), stress ( also make the hair fall out everywhere, or in patches). I used to use a straightening iron a while back at 20 yrs old everyday to get my hair stick straight and crazy and that made my hair fall out everywhere I burned my hair... so if you're using any type of excessive heat that could cause hairloss. From the situation you describe I would say you have male pattern baldness. I started of at 20 using just propecia which stopped my hair from shedding real bad for 2 years. Then my hairline started shedding again so I got on rogaine and that definitely increases density. I have also recently added 2% liquid spironolactone from http://www.minoxidil.com and apply it to my hairline and temples.

You can do all this crap for the rest of your life to maintain a good amount of hair and be happy that you caught it early. At 20 it bothered the living hell out of me that my hair was thinning and all my friends still looked great. Now here I am at 25 with a alot of hair and my friends are all losing it and sometimes I feel blessed that I kept up with my hair and sometimes I wonder if it was really worth it. Personally it is a great feeling when girls all stare at you because you are that guy that didn't get fat and have no signs of going bald at 25 years old. Its been alot of work though and you're never stress free... you always wonder when it is finally going to catch up with you. :freaked2:

if your hair was falling out just from stress it would fall out everywhere not just in the front or crown. plus you'd have to be like wicked stressed... like car repoed children all died... wife left me... dog turned into coffee mug

Jayman, yes... well sorta. Dr. says that the container was a cofee mug since day one and that I had only thought it was Pendelton (my golden retriever) due to my severe dementia. Things in life sometimes just aren't what you think. I miss Pendelton. He had a soft coat.

Young sir. If you go to a Dr. it will be a matter of his own opinion whether you are losing your hair or not. If you go to a Hair Surgeon he will tell you that you are losing your hair and try to sell you something to fix it that will certainly not work... or tell you your hair is fine so you wait till it comes out and get a hair transplant. The regular old Dr. will be like "your hair is def falling out but you have a long way to go and the medications are not worth it"... or he will tell you to go to the dermatoligist who will tell you the same thing. Or perhaps maybe... your Dr. will have an idea of how well the big 3 works if you stick to it... but that is very doubtful.

All I can tell you is that life is much easier with hair then without. You want to show your face more in public with it... and its a great feeling when you see that girl you dated in highschool and your hair is awesome and you know it.
