I'm a 25 year old male and I'm still shedding 4 months from starting 1/4 proscar daily. I don't know what to do. I've lost about 50% of my hair density from my back and side of my head. Before I started proscar my problem was a receeding hairline and loss of density on top of my head. My back and sides were fine. I can't tell if they are growing back as I have my hair shoulder length.

The thing is I started 1/4 proscar a year ago for about 4 and a bit months and I responded brilliantly (thickening on top, no shedding etc.) and I stupidly stopped for two weeks. I started again and this has happended. I don't understand. How can I respond so brilliantly and then so badly.

Could it be folliculitis as I've had a few spots on my scalp or telogen effluvium

Could it be Reflex Hyperandrogenicity? My libido is normal and my skin is not oily. I did have a couple of pimple on my forehead about a month ago but they cleared up after a few days. I've also had itches over my body and increased body hair growth (I think I have but you can never tell if your imagining it). I've also cut down my intake of finasteride to half a 1/4 proscar a day to see if this helps.

I don't know what to do anymore. Carry on taking proscar and hope things turn around or stop. I know for certain that my hairline will get blitzed if I stop. I'm seeing a derm. on the NHS (british health service) tomorrow, but I've not got much faith he/she will be able to help me.

I've quit my job (crap job anyway) because of this as I'm going to have to shave my head if it doesn't turn around soon. I just can't face the stares I would get if I shaved it and walked into work. My head would look a complete mess. Its really destroying. Any help would be appreciated.

Warren.
