Hai guys..Im a 24 year old male..need your help a.s.a.p..I think Im suffering from male pattern baldness but im not sure on which scale of Norwood I am now..I think the genes runs from my mother sides..2 of my uncles (mid 40+) are almost total balding..My grandmas brother's two of them are also total balding (mid 70s)..However, my father who is 52 has perfect hair even better than mine..It totally stressed me out.Havent started any treatment (finasteride/minoxidil) yet mainly because of these two reasons :

1.Heard a lot of problems of side effects of finasteride + massive amount of shedding. Not too worried about the side effect but the shedding process..From what i read online, those who suffer from massive shedding from taking fins doesnt get their hair back. And im afraid after taking these pills, my hair will get worse. At the moment only receding at the temples / hairlines and the crown (on top) is ok (Attached pics).Should i take finasteride? My biggest concern is finasteride will only destroy what i have now and will make thing worse because of the shedding process. Some of them who took almost a year and suffer shedding process and quit with lesser amount of hairs compared to when they are not taking the drugs. Since i have a full thick set of hair,i dont want to lose what i have now and make it even worse.

2.Well of course the side effect but i think i wont have any, and if i do, ill just stop taking the drugs.

Can u guys tell me im on which scale of Norwood and what should i do.I am absolutely clueless and confused. Please help.Thx in Advance

I'd say Norwood 2.5. I've been on finasteride and minoxidil for 2 and a half months. No side effects and good regrowth, my hair loss has already stopped and places where my hair was thinning have mostly recovered now. Men who have side effects are in the minority, and if you do have side effects you can always just quit finasteride. There is no reason not to give it a try for a month or two.

Thank you for the reply..I will try and take finasteride. But do you think its too late for me to start anything? If i grow my hair long enough, i can still cover the balding area as my hair is thick.Wow..I thought it was a Norwood 2.

I agree that you're a Norwood 2.5. Get on finasteride, wait 6-12 months to see how you respond, and if you're unhappy with the results then add minoxidil to the regimen.

Thanks for the reply..Im starting to take finasteride and mino together..My biggest concern is finasteride will only make thing worse as my hair loss is only at the temples and no hair loss at the top/crown area..Heard finasteride work better at the top and not working around the temple..Shedding also is the main concern now as im afraid my scalp will be visible after taking finasteride (which at the moment top part is very thick and no hair loss at all)..I will give it a try at least 6 month on finasteride and will wait. But how do u know that finasteride is not working and is just not for u?im realy afraid it will make things worse and im quite ok with what i have now..just dont want to make it worse...
