Just got back to the States and haven't been on this board for the longest time and was just wondering....are

Finpecia / Propecia
Nizoral 2% Shampoo
Rogain

still the the big 3? or have you guys discovered something new?

I used to order my finasteride from inhousepharmacy.biz or something like that? are they still reliable or did they go to jail to like some other sites lol

I was on all three and noticed a ton of new baby hair but it never got out of that stage..so I went off of it for like a year now and just this past Christmas we took several pics and I noticed how much more thin my hair looks now and I'm now panicking again :( lol

Miss you guys!!! :)

Those are still the big 3.

It sounds like you've made the classic mistake, "I don't see much regrowth, so I'm going to stop." Not EVERYONE sees regrowth, and you don't have to have regrowth to have success. Just halting further loss is considered a success. Now you're seeing what happens to your hair with no preventative treatments :sobbing:

Yeah, I hear ya. Even though it was only 1 pill a day. I felt like a druggie for some reason lol

Is it ok for your body to take it everyday?

Been on it every day for almost 4 years now. No complaints here :)

If you're worried about it then you might try it a .5mg a day to see how you handle it.

What's the opinion on the 1 a week initially every Monday, good idea or bad?

1 pill a week? I don't know that it would do much to combat hairloss. finasteride is out of your system about 14hrs (I think) after you take it....so I think you'd need to take it EoD at the very least.

True, but it takes the 5-AR days to replenish, there was even study on finasteride EOD, albeit a small scale study that showed it could be almost has effective taking Mon-Wed-Fri as opposed to ED, case in point being that the 5-AR takes at least 3 days to go back to normal levels.

Is it possible to post a link or the study itself. Need to readjust my finasteride dose and it might help ....

Thank you

I was wrong, it showed in the study (several studies actually) that a single dose of finasteride suppressed serum DHT for 7 days or more.

http://www.hairestorationetwork.com/e ... r-day.html

"Hi guys. I do have an opinion on this topic. Propecia is approved by the US FDA for once a day use. This does not mean it is the best dosage, only the one that was studied and approved. The average serum "half-life" of finasteride 1mg is about 5 hours in young men and 8 hours in older men. This does not mean that half of the medicine is out of your body in that time period though. The finasteride molecule is distributed throughout the body where it binds to the type II 5-alpha-reductase enzyme, thereby inhibiting conversion of testosterone to dihydrotesterone. Serum DHT is reduced about 65%, and less DHT means less balding. But several studies show that a single dose of finasteride suppresses serum DHT for 7 days or more (Eur J Drug Metab Pharmacokinet. 1991 Jan-Mar;16(1):15-21, J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 1990 Apr;70(4):1136-41, Prostate. 1989;14(1):45-53). So the finasteride is leaving the bloodstream, entering the tissue throughout the body, and binding to the typeII 5AR enzyme, resulting in long lasting DHT suppression.

I do not "recommend" my patients take finasteride daily, every other day, twice weekly, etc. Rather I feel it is my duty as their doctor to advise them of the known facts about this medication. Most of my patients choose to take it on a Mon-Wed-Fri schedule, which is rational from my point of view. Many of my younger patients take it daily 'just to be sure' while my older patients are happy to take it two or three times a week. There are no clinical studies showing that less than daily dosing is as effective at treating hair loss as daily dosing and for obvious financial reasons, the pharmaceutical company making finasteride has no incentive to fund such a study.

I hope this information is helpful. It is up to each patient to make an informed decision about which dosage is right for them."

Thanks guys, I mention the '1 pill a week' thing as it was mentioned before to do only in the first few weeks, to build yourself up to it, not one a week permanently. Just to get your body to adjust more gradually than straight in.
