Hello everyone, I'm Scotty. I'm 21 years old and most of the males in my family are bald. My father is a strong NW6, and all but one of my blood related uncles (There are 4) are NW4 with very thin crown hair. Genetically, I'm probably boned. My hairline is the worst part of my hair loss. At this rate, my hair will probably look a lot like my uncles'. Just guessing, but most of my hair loss is at the hairline. It's not terrible yet, but I'm hoping I can stop or reverse it. Currently I take Saw Palmetto, (Yes, I know a lot of people frown upon it) A timed release multivitamin for the hair, niacin, biotin, and I've recently started using Rogain. Foam in the morning, liquid at night. I've noticed a bit of shedding from the Rogain, which I started two weeks ago. That's a good thing, right? Anyways, I've posted a couple pictures. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you~
Scotty

Edit: Also, I dye my hair black, but I'm thinking of cutting it short and letting it grow back naturally. This would make applying rogain easier, and I wouldn't be putting any chemicals in my hair.

Adding a couple more pics of my hairline...I'm pretty sure it looks worse than it is in the second pic of my first post. Let me stress how important my hair is to me. I have a very odd head shape. It's pretty flat in the back...I've always kept my hair somewhat long for a guy. Not quite shoulder lenght, and my bangs hide my massive forehead. I'm a pretty average looking guy otherwise. My hair adds a lot to my appearance. If I lose it, I don't know what I'll do. I would make a terrible, terrible bald guy.snapshot (6).jpgsnapshot (7).jpg

The dark hair doesn't help your situation out any. I think you should cut it! maybe a crew cut :) I also believe the saw palmetto helps out. Not a ton, but it is better than nothing. If you don't want to try propecia, you should get the s5 cream off the site. The 3 jars for 100 bucks can last you around 5 months.

I've been putting some serious thought into cutting it, which is a big deal to me. I've always had long-ish hair. It'd make treatment a hell of a lot easier too. I might have to think about the s5 cream as well. I have a moderate case of gyno, so I'm very leery about finasteride. Does a topical anti androgen work as well as one taken orally?

Update on my regimen:

Two weeks into using something that actually works (mostly minoxidil)
I bought a bottle of Regenepure Dr and used it for the first time today. I plan on only using it 2-3 times a week to stretch it out.
Have been using 5% minoxidil foam when I wake up, and liquid before bed. I've used a 0.5mm dermaroller three times in the past week and a half with the liquid minoxidil. I also take Niacin, Biotin, Puritan's Pride vitamins for the hair, and Saw Palmetto twice a day. Pretty sure the shedding has started...I've been losing easily twice as much hair for the past week or so. It's discouraging and encouraging at the same time :/ I know it's all a part of treatment, but I'm worried about how much more I will lose.

Well, I believe I suffered more sides with saw palmetto than I did with S5 cream. And that was just a slight ache in my right testicle. I don't think topical S5 is anywhere close to oral spironolactone. That's why sides are very little. I haven't been lifting weights really while on S5 for what ever reason not related to S5. I kept a decent amount of muscle mass still.
