This study suggests significant side-effects of long term finasteride or dutasteride use, including kidney and liver damage.

Can anyone provide some well thought of thoughts on how credible this study is and how common such side-effects could be?

My brother has a lot of hair loss and he started using finasteride. We read about it on Canadian pharmacy and he decided to continue treatment. After some time, he started having depression after which he stopped taking this medication. It had no other side effects so I can't tell you anything more. If you are worried, it is better to go to a doctor who will examine you and tell you whether you can take these drugs or not.

I can confirm liver issues. My AST levels increased from 47 to 93, (ideally should be below 50 in a healthy adult) and never came below 50 as long as I was on it.

I initially did not told my doctor about finasteride as he did not prescribe it to me. But later I had to confess as he started cross questioning me when my AST did not came under 50 even after 6 months.

Good thing i reduced my duta dose from 2mg to 0,5.
