Having A Lot Of Trouble Getting My System To Bond

Hi all

Really struggling with how best to attach my system. I’ve used Davlyn glue which only holds for a day or so, and ghost bond platinum. It feels like this is going to be an issue for me. I sweat a lot and am very active, so this is probably the issue.

Has anybody else got similar issues? I really want to be able to bond my hairline and not have to think about it for at least a couple of days!!!!

Would love to hear suggestions of other products or regimens?

Isn't Ghostbond Platinum one of the strongest glues there is? Do you do 4 layers?

Yeah, that's why I went for it. I'm really concerned that if this won't work then none will. I don't do 4 layers, my stylist said to just do one. Should I do more?

I don’t really think multiple layers beyond 2 add much. If you are losing attachment because of perspiration, then the number one thing you need to do is switch to a lace base.

A few other ideas, some or all of which you probably already know:

- prep well. Clean your scalp with soap and water, dry it thoroughly, then wipe down with 99% isopropyl alcohol before applying adhesive. Make sure the base of your piece is squeaky clean, and wipe it with alcohol too.
- press your hairline down well into the glue. The teeth of a metal comb held sideways is the best tool for this.
- allow the adhesive to cure in a dry environment. Apply your glue and your system in a cool dry place (not a steamy bathroom), and stay in the cool and dry for at least 4 hours, with no exercise, swimming or showering during that time.
- if sweat is still a problem consider using scalp protector (barrier liquid) under your adhesive, and/or medical grade anti-perspirant such as Maxxam, which you can get from Hair Direct.
- if you are currently using glue on your hairline, try Walkers 3-mil tape instead.

Yeah I get the feeling that a big part of it is the base. I’m the whole I’m really happy with the system (beats a balding dome with spray on hair!!!) but I am genuinely amazed by how mis-sold I’ve been on the idea of a ‘breathable’ skin base. When I took the system off the other day, I placed the skin to my mouth and tried to blow air through the ‘pores’. It’s absolutely not breathable! It’s a layer of plastic on my head. I really hate it. It smells when I take it off and it’s really detectable around the edges of the hair isn’t swept exactly right. Glad to hear that you think a lace base could help me out with this Noah. I’m definitely switching to tape as well, which I’m assuming will also help with breathability? I’m going to see if I can get away with full tape and ditch the glue altogether.

I went with all glue originally. I felt it would be more secure - I just didn't trust tape as much.

Then the salon sneakily kept putting tape on the perimeter (not sure why? this was in addition to a full scalp glue bond).

Now I just have tape around the back+sides, and then glue just at the front. It's pretty secure (I think) and if I want to re-do it myself I have a lace base with poly back/sides. I re-did it in <30 mins the other day. Took it off, cleaned it, cleaned myself and re-attached.

I get 2 weeks as a bond I think.. Still feeling it out.

The more layers the stronger and longer lasting the attachment.

There is no such thing as a "breathable skin base"!

Well, as Jim says, some places sell skin bases with little holes punched in them. Science would seem to suggest that they ought to be breathable to some extent, but my experience is the same as Jim’s: for practical purposes they are not breathable - the little holes are a gimmick which has no effect.
