Hi guys, so my dermatologist prescribe me a Taurine topical lotion, specifically the Seskavel brand. She promote that she has clients who rave about it since it helped them grew new hairs at the temple area.

Taurine is something new to me since I've always heard about the big 3 for hair loss Propecia, Minoxidil and Nizoral. My derm didn't prescribe me those. What do you guys think about Taurine?

Another question I have is... as far as I know... one needs to use it continuously for the rest of their lives for it to be effective. That's what my derm also told me.. but one thing I forgot to ask is... if I stop using these products will it be worst than when I started or will it just revert back to the status of my hair before I used these products. I have to ask this because my hairline as of the moment is not that bad yet, in fact my derm on my first visit last week just wants me to first have a wait and see attitude if in fact if its male pattern baldness. I just went back to her today for other concerns but decided to ask about my hair again and this is what she prescribed me this time. >_> She was a bit in a hurry so I am not quite sure if she has checked it properly.

Never heard of taurine for hair loss nor seen any studies to suggest it works or how. I do know it's a key ingredient in Red Bull though, hence the bull/taurus related name.

But do you know for any products like these, once you started... is it impossible to stop? Or will it just revert back before you used the product.

First, it probably doesn't work, so when you start it/quit it, no difference. Second, that's how all hair loss treatments work, when you quit finasteride/minoxidil, they don't work anymore, that should be common sense. That's how treatments work, they only work when you use them. There is no cure, no one time and you're done drug or medication. When you stop brushing your teeth, they'll probably fall out too...

I know I know... but what I mean is it won't be in a worst situation if I stop using it?

Sorry, english is just my secondary language so I'll just give an example.

Let's say I have a full head of hair right now with just slight thinning I then start to use these topical treatments. It works but then I have to stop due to cost or something. Will I be in a worst situation than the time before I start using these products? Like instead of just slight thinning it'll become more noticeable or something.

It's like asking if the side effect of using these products is that I can't stop using them.

With finasteride I'm sure that you will not be worse off than before treatment if you quit, you will just revert to whatever stage you would have been at anyway. With minoxidil I'm not sure, maybe healthy hair will become minoxidil dependent, maybe not.

This study indicates that you may end up temporarily below baseline before returning to a state as if you hadn't used minoxidil.
