Have been off minoxidil 2 weeks - NO EFFECT

After being on minoxidil for 2+ years and 4 months along with finasteride i started to realise how pathetic applying this crap was

Dont get me wrong - if i had experienced any real regrowth that would be different but my main reason for staying on it for so long was FEAR of the unknown.

BUT applying greasy sh*t to my hair (That made my hair look crap!) for the rest of my life for little to no benefit is rather unthinkable - so i decided to draw then line


Well....2 weeks in and if anything my hair is in better condition than before. Obviously this is only a short period of time but i strongly believe i simply wasn't a responder to minoxidil (just like 50%+ of people)


So....i think we need to nail this message how a bit. I think too many people on here are loyal to minoxidil despite not being responders. Remaining on it in fear is not a good reason - chances are if you haven't noticed any real result then the benefits (if any) are so marginal you'll not miss out on it.


I hope other people can break free from this greasy sh*t that is doing them no good. Frankly, if you aren't sure if it has helped you chances are it hasn't!!

^ im a diffuse thinner, even applying foam all over my head isn't raelly pratical let alone a liquid

keep in mind, not seeing regrowth doesn't necessarily mean it isn't working...

for me the minoxidil is all about maintaining the hair I have, not so much growing new hair, so as long as the hairline isn't moving, i'm sticking with it...

and yeah, the foam couldn't be easier to apply. takes me about 30 seconds and dries instantly.

each to their own but tbh minoxidil isnt really a maintainer per se i think a lot of people use minoxidil who aren't even responders

committing yourself to a lifetime of stuff in the delusion that it is doing something it isn't is sad sad times. IMO i think there are many users on here that use minoxidil out of fear rather than any tangible results.

It was probably keeping your hair in the anagen phase longer than it would have stayed on it's own which is maintenance in a sense. I would not be at all surprised if you have a massive shed some time in the future---2 weeks is nothing.

Keep us updated though---I'm very curious as to what may happen.

^ well, i really hope not...cant afford a shed it would make my hairloss much more noticable, right now its controllable.

i duno, maybe i have reliant hairs hopefully finasteride will offset any negative effects of me goign of the minoxidil

all i know is that on the box it says discontinue use after 6 months if yuou dont see any different. i wish i given up at that point.

certainly agree but i do sense, given teh way minoxidil works, the effects of defaulting on it should be noticable much sooner than say finasteride ...

the FDA trials say you will be as if you never took minoxidil within 6 months to a 1 year, I believe.

I had the same experience, but after 3 months I noticed my hair had thinned a lot.

Two weeks is too early to see results, give it two months....

well i had to man up at some point - better now

my hairloss has progressed over the past fwe years, up until mid last yaer i wasn't even using it by the book, i was constantly missing days at a time. i took it for 4 months with the finasteride to see if it would hepl then but i dont feel it has - any improvements i attribute to finasteride

i hoep finasteride can atleast minimise any negative effect of going of the minoxidil. end of the day, i wasnt a great responder so applying it every day for the rest of my life just just to stay a fwe months ahead of my inevitably balding head (at 23!!!!!!!!!) didn't seem feasible

im hopeful finasteride can maintain tho

good to hear man! Keep us updated. I just quit minoxidil after being on it since 2006, so I'm pretty nervous

I've been applying Rogaine Foam for 5 months or so on the hairline. The first week I noticed the shedding was drastically down, but then sh*t started.

I started shedding loads and my hairline started looking silly. My temples were getting pretty ugly and my hair had gotten all dry and, well, ugly.

That didnt change a bit, so 3 weeks ago I decided I wasn't a good responder and quit it. Now I don't think I'll notice any loss of maintained hair, cause I'd be very much surprised if minoxidil managed to do so. I do notice my hair looks a LOT better. My temples haven't changed ofcourse in these 3 weeks, but the hair is a LOT less dry and more shiny.

Wasn't that much of a hassle to put it on 2 times daily, but it wasn't worth it iyam.
