Yep.. I think it's ridiculous and bullsh1t myself.

They're poking fun of a medical condition.

They don't make fun of the blind.

They don't make fun of the paralyzed.

They don't make fun of those with acne.

How can they get away with this? Well, they're piece of sh1t a**h** marketing cvnts.. that's how.

The snickers one is pretty bad too, they show a bald man crying at the end because he thought his snickers wig was fooling people.

Yeah I saw that one today also.. it's pretty fukkin' STUPID if you ask this Snickers enthusiast.

Those sons of b****s.

.. Maybe eventually the 'bald theme' in commercials will get played out (kind of like the thug theme in rap music), and people will get bored as fvck about it.. and they'll stop making things oriented around such overdone topics.

It would be great if they showed an advertisement about somebody who is continually picked-on about his/her appearance at job or school, and that person comes back with a machine gun and kills all the assh0les who busted his balls. "You wanna make fun of me?! Say hello to my little friend! RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT!!" <-- that would rule! Oh wait, something similiar to that happened in real life.. I think it was Columbine right? Pick on people enough, and see where it gets you.

We all have a breaking point ;)

Anybody got an original advertisement for us? One that doesn't revolve around the sorrows of others perhaps?

Hey guys!! I think we need a bit of sense of humour here.

There are beneficial effects of laughing of your own misfortunes.

Also, I hate the most when a bunch of feminists or greenpeace or the "elder protection society" get anfry becouse of a humorous scene in a film or a commercial.

Also, It makes the joke even funnier.

You don´t fear what you can laugh about. It´s an old antropological axiome.

If you turn it upside down, you have "you can´t laugh about what you fear".

I see where your coming from.. but it's not funny.

where is the commercial that shows a diffuse thinning womans hair?

or the commercial about someoen who has to have all their teeth pulled because of a gum disease?

I take my hairloss very emotionally and seriously. I dont think the commercials they play are funny at all.

re:

You're talking about the commercial where the guy has his head covered by Snickers candy bars, right? Then you have that Asian guy smiling at the end of it. Yep, I saw it during Monday Night football and yeah I agree that it is lame as hell. It is considered cruel and not right to make fun of fat people, people with acne, etc but it seems to be a-ok to make fun of bald people which of course people with half a brain know that nobody has much control over and can drastically alter our lives. It is a f*cked up world that we live in now, no doubt.

To top it off, that's all I ever seem to hear women talking about where I work. Every other conversation seems to be about hair whether it be about them commenting on how another woman's hair looks ugly or that a guy would look better if he wasn't bald or should get a different haircut. Hair seems to be the end all be all to a lot of women and I wouldn't doubt if it is the main reason why many men are rejected or women leave them. Women are starting to become more and more shallow every day it seems especially about hair.

Most American women ARE shallow.

It seems that the Euro chicks are much nicer overall and less superficial..

yeah, we have bald men commercials here too, making fun of them... I hate those commercials, and I don't live in USA.

here, society make fun of bald men, and i think TV shows the bald man as a loser, impotent and a toy to make fun of...

And usually those commercials are made by women...

I simply HATE TV, and those b****s that make the commercials or are in charge of publicity companies. I try to avoid TV as much as I can.

By the way, Snickers should be a punishment, not a candy.

The caramel filling tastes no good, and it always end sticking into your teeth, spreading his disgustingly sweet infectious flavour for a bit more of time.

Even if they make a commercial implying that the new fashion is balding guys I´m still not eating that stinky bar.

I disagree. I love me some Snickers. Delicious!

And come on guys, this thread about lawsuits against bald jokes is laughable. They bother you because you let them. Laugh it off and lighten up. Even though I know it can feel like it, the world is NOT against you nor is it preoccupied with making fun of your hair (or lack thereof). No one of any consequence gives a hoot. The sooner your recognize that, the sooner you'll feel good about yourself again. Pull up! Pull up!

Friend, I couldn't care less about a damn frozen pizza commercial.

You need to buck up. Holy crap man...life is full of challenges that will make this male pattern baldness thing look like a hangnail. As Hans and Frans used to say, "Listen to me now and believe me later." You'll look back on these days and wish you hadn't wasted so much time and energy fretting...

Hmm, so I just saw the Snickers commercial for the first time (God bless Google), and I have to say, I didn't find it that offensive. I didn't really find it that funny, either. It probably could have been hilarious if it was better developed, but the one I saw was only about 10-15 seconds long (maybe it was cut/edited down).

As for the pizza commercial, it's kind of a dumb commercial (as many of their spots are), but it certainly didn't make me want to cry or anything else like that.

Honestly, bald jokes are going to be around for a very long time, just like jokes poking fun at any other non-terminal condition. There are just as many media portrayals of obese people, men, women, blondes, Canadians, Rabbis, sharpeis, etc out there. It's part of life. All we can do is work on our own self-images and learn that these commercials are far from being part of a malicious agenda set forth by some double-secret organization of "shallow women" or mean male models with a full head of hair. They're just something that apparently played well to a focus group. Nothing more, nothing less. A lot of people found it funny. Period.

That's the same reason that other groups mentioned (terminal illnesses, balding women, etc) aren't portrayed in this light: no one finds it funny. That's all. Not because we're being persecuted.

Yeah, it sucks to lose hair. I've been doing it since I was 18, and it's certainly not fun. But the truth is, I care much more than anyone else in my life, including my fiancee who knew about my hair when we first met and couldn't care less (she actually encourages me to go out without prothik, or to style my hair in ways that she likes, even if it means showing WAY more scalp).

Suing over these kind of things would be rather fruitless, I'm afraid. Most likely, it would have the same effect as the protest groups surrounding the film The Last Temptation of Christ: a lot of people flipped out, and in trying to boycott the film gave it massive free publicity.

My advice? Simple. Take care of yourself. Stay healthy, dress well, care for your hair. If you want to take finasteride and minoxidil then do so. But don't forget to also choose a style you love. Do what makes you happy. Hair is important, but it's only one aspect of you, both physically and mentally. Don't neglect the other facets of your being.

And if necessary, work on your sense of humor. It's going to be a lot easier to deal with these ads when you can see them for what they are: attempts at using humor in a commercially advantageous way.

Geico

Geico auto insurance had a commerial that made fun of hairloss. It seems that it was pulled rather fast. Replacing it was the new campaign of cave men "even a cave man can do it" and the cave man would be like "excuse me thats rude". So essenially they further laugh at the balding man.

This is the exact reason to be self conscious of hairloss. I wouldn't have a big deal with it IF other's didn't. But FACT is, hairloss is NOT attractive. It appeals to about as many women as murderers appeal to women. Yes, Scott Peterson will have 100 women propose to him on death row.. Those women are crazy... Can the same be said of women who claim to be attracted to bald men?

Bald men are ALWAYS portrayed negatively...
