Ok so 1/10 men get hashimotos with is auto immune disease of the thyroid (I also have other issues like overall body inflammation, psoriasis, even lost a finger nail to posriasis.

But losing hair is one of the most common side effects of the disease, and its even more devastating for women as you can imagine.

But hey I like having hair. It wasnt until about 6 months after my daignosis I noticed hair on my pillow, I was a bit freaked out. This was 10 years ago. And then about 5 years ago my crown started to thin and a tiny bit down the middle. Not bald just you can see the scalp and clearly its on its last legs. Id imagine within 5 years id be bald crown. Hard to say as Im fighting my disease.

Anyway. What do you blokes suggest?

My liver is where 60% of my thyroid hormone is converted so I need something non liver taxing and nothing known to be toxic. So I asked my doctor and he said minoxidil wont touch the liver, the pill finasteride will be processed by my liver, he couldnt say if it would be overly taxing, but I already take 4 pills a day, aiming to get down to 1 plus using my hair regime.

I read the articles. AWESOME website. I saw the laser comb, is that fair dinkum or a croc of cr.p? ie does it work?

Something like Finasteride will not tax your liver to the point where thyroid hormone cannot be processed. Slow balding in specific areas is not the same thing as thyroid related hair loss where it is more sudden and all over. Thyroid correction will eventually restore the hair loss over a few months (like 6-9). If it is male pattern baldness then thyroid supplementation will not restore the hair.

Also I do not think 1/10 men have Hashimotos. I think only 10% of overall cases are men.

Hehe yes 10% of cases. Sorry Braing fog. My problem is I am in the 5% of hashis folk who cannot comply with any method of hormone replacement. T4, T4 and T3, NDT (like Amour), T3 only. Nothing has worked.

Oh it was sudden, it was all over my bed. But then it stopped. And its been the same for a long time. Nobody in my family either side have hair loss at all. One problem is I have ultra fine hair as well, straight.

Ok so ROgaine and Finasteride is a safe option, and it works? Should I clipper cut my longer hair for ease of use?

What about the laser comb?

So Finasteride is effective if you have male pattern baldness. If it is due to Thyroid issues, it is not really the direction you should be taking. I take Naturethroid and I do not know what you mean that you 'cannot comply'. The only time people should take T3 only is if they have high Rt3 and that is only till it gets down. There is really never a need to JUST take T3.

Yeah I know, it SUCKs right? Yes I have high RT3, hence the battle. Ive just come off opiates after 5 years, major back injury. On my RT3 report it mentioed opioids but I cant find that backed up on the net. Im Obese and Sedentary due to the back issue. I wonder if that could cause high RT3. I use to be 90kg cut Rugby League player and got smashed in the back from behind and bent sideways. 3 discs and he even broke a vertebrae. Anyway Im better now and looking to rehibilitate that. But I know hair regrowth takes time so I want to start as it will take me 6 months to lose the weight. I believe in finding the cause of RT3, treating with just T3 to lower it, you just gonna get back to the same place after unless you stay on that and its a pretty scary protocol.

I did get better once just on T4 and Effexor. I dropped 30kg though. It seems to me exercise and weight has a bearing on my hypothyroidism or conversion. My cells are inflamed, 15% conversion is done in our cells and brain, so that doesnt help, and being blocked up in bowels all the time thats another 20% conversion possibly effected. But the liver is 60%. Its just slightly fatty at the mo.

Id say its male patter baldness but its thinning also on my left side. I have a pic somewhere but its under leds so it obviouslly looks worse than ambient light. Ill try to find it but help in the mean time appreciated.

Confused about these special DHT shampoos like Biotin. Do they replace finasteride?

Finasteride can cause BRAIN FOG? omg thats not for me, if anyone could be in my body they would know what brain fog is, Dehibilitating.

So guys what should I do, I take my thyroid meds but my hair isnt growing back.

Is Rogaine and Finasteride the standard treatment for male pattern baldness?

Do any natural treatments really work or are they bogus?
