Has Anyone Tried Progesterone For Hair Loss?

I just had a blood test and it revealed low progesterone and boarder line lower range testesterone.

I want to discuss this with a Doctor and get more tests to confirm but...Did some online search and realized that progesterone is actually used by some as a hair loss treatment as it's an 5AR inhibitor. (sounds contradictory since it gets converted to T as well and at the same time has some anti estrogenic effect. Like a neutralizing hormone I suppose?)

Some people swear by it while others get huge shedding. A common side effect seems to be sleepiness and tiredness.

People who had experience with it please chime in and share. Please also note what type of progesterone (topically on scalp/oral/transdermal) you were using as well. THX!

In the german forum many users tried it out and some actually still stick with it.
The only way to find out is to try it out I am afraid.

If you dig back in hair loss forums you find a lot of knowledge about hormones as well. Keep in mind that low testosterone leads to high dht.

I tried e2 for a short time and it caused huge shedding. I was too afraid to keep going. :/
I now kind of stabilised and the hair is quite ok.

Why would low T lead to high DHT?

The symptoms of low progesterone + low T (resulted from it) pretty much matches how finasteride fucked me up in the past years (low libido, fatigue, depression/anxiety, insomnia, unable to handle stress, etc). And in the mean time I'm having drastically accelerated hair loss. So maybe I should have my DHT tested again to see.

Previously I suspected my thyroid but I've done three thyroid blood tests spread out in the last year and the results came back pretty normal and really stable so I think it's something else. Maybe finasteride fucked my endocrine system up in unknown ways in which progesterone and T are involved. I don't know.

I read from a study before that E2 can cause follicles to enter telogen prematurely so maybe that gave you shedding.

Have the side effects of Propecia gone away yet or still lingering?

It fluctuates. Honestly after quitting it and going back on if and messing with the dose for so long I can't give an objective opinion anymore.

A small update of my fucked up hormones:

The dr ignored my problem saying progesterone is a female hormone(which by the way is not really true) and my levels were fine.

Reflecting upon my past experience, several consecutive test results, etc. I still do have a feeling that my T level plays a significant role in my side effects. In the past one year it was between 10 to 15nmol/L. Considering I'm 25 and currently lift at least 5 days a week I would expect a bit higher. Whether that is my natural predisposition I don't know. I have somewhat neutral features and my mass gain in gym is very unpropotional to my strength(people are usually amazed by the weight I lift judging by my size). I wish I had my test levels a few years back but lost them.
