I'm sure minoxidil alone has at least maintained for thousands of guys over the years. It's done more for me than the finasteride. But at some point it'll probably be best to add propecia to protect follicles long-term.

If you respond to minoxidil, I'd think there'd be a good chance of it keeping hair satisfactory for several years on its own before needing to add. Of course, it varies by individual.

I've been using minoxidil alone since the beginning of December, I've had good results I believe. Hair definately feels and looks is thicker, and friends say my hair looks a lot better nowadays then it did 6-7 months ago. I've noticed a bit of regrowth, but it's very light regrowth, nothing drastic. Sorry don't have pictures to prove it...

Be aware that minoxidil does nothing to stop or reverse the actual damage that male pattern baldness does to the follicles. It merely grows hair despite the onset of male pattern baldness, untill the follices are too far gone to produce anymore. There is no substitute for DHT fighting agents such as Propecia, Avodart, and spironolactone.

my little brother has had great sucess with just 5% minoxidil his hai8r is thicker and his receding hairline has filled in,but i think he one of the few that get real good regrowth off minoxidil alone, less then 5% do i think

actually according to a study I dont have it on me but has been posted many times that 33% of patients using minoxidil 5% in the study for the front had increased coverage and good regrowth so 1/3rd of a chance isnt bad

what i am trying to say is that most guys that use minoxidil or finasteride will just stop there hair getting any worse or maybe a tiny bit bitter, i think its more likely to not work then amazing regrowth

Minoxidil and Finasteride at good at thickening and coarsening exsisting, thinning hair - neither is particuarly good at regrowing hair in slick bald areas.

Hence the bitching about the lack of hairline growth.

well fortunately the top of my head is thin but not "slick" yet. I think im just gonna start on minoxidil for a couple months then add finasteride maybe bout 3 or 4 months later. What do you guys think?

sh*t, I did it again. I wanted to edit, but accidentally hit the back button before editing and instead made a second post.

Anyways, my corrected post is below. Sorry for the lost bandwith, HairLossTalk.com. This is the last time I mess up.

My most dramatic improvement on a minoxidil/spironolactone regimen has been incredible improvement in my existing but thinning hair. 110% improvement in cosmetic stylability! I also have good regrowth, about a cosmetically significant half inch off the top of my once bald temples, and still in progress. This is only after 7 months.
