hairy back

Hi,
I'm 22years old and I've been experiencing receeding temples since I was 21. It was something that kind of blind sided me. I just sort of looked in the mirror one day and it was just a smack in the face.

I was sort of hairy since like high school. I've always had a hair chest. But that year at University before I noticed my receeding temples(which I noticed in the summer), my back started to grow hair on it, which I never had.

I was searching the forum here for more information related to the hairy back and wasn't getting any luck. One thing I did pick up was that I probably have a high DHT.

Is there any sort of health problems attributed to having a hairy back?

I'm not sure how I would describe where I am in my balding. I guess from what I can guess, like a NW2 or something. Whatever that means. I picked that up from people's avatars. I kinda have what Bill Murray has going on.

But yeah, is there any health issues with having a hairy back?

None, my friend. Possibly higher DHT levels.

Finasteride can help to slow down your body hair growth, as well as keep the hair up top stable.

Ha, funny you posted this, Reagan.
I was gonna post something almost similar. I've noticed I've had way more chest year in the past couple of years (I'm 29 now), which is also when my hairline started thinning. hmmm

It's strange that I started growing longer, concentrated body hair at this age.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I don't think I'm ready for taking a drug for this. I didn't like what I read about not being able to get it up lol. But I feel I have to try other ways first. I'd like to tweak my lifestyle(ie: diet and stuff) to see where that leads me, before I start into the pills.

Here's something I was reading:

Dihydrotestosterone is the hormone which does the damage to your skin. It is important to realise that females have these hormones and some have more than others.

There are two ways to prevent the negative effects of dihydrotestosterone on your body. Either you have to inhibit the activity of 5-alpha reductase or you have to increase the breakdown of dihydrotestosterone via your liver.

Those nutrients that reduce the activity of 5-alpha reductase include zinc, soy, flaxseed, pumpkin seed and evening primrose oil. Diets high in saturated fat such as meat, milk and butter increase 5-alpha reductase.

To enhance the detoxification capability of your liver, thereby reducing dihydrotestosterone a diet high in garlic, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower would be beneficial.

Consuming lots of berry fruits such as strawberries and blackberries, as well as taking supplements of the vitamins A, C and E and the herb St Mary’s thistle (Silybum marianum) would further augment liver function.

I'm not denying that it works, but it's something I don't want to dive into yet. It's just something that I believe. Sex drive dives, than there's something wrong.

I just believe that this is happening for a reason. My hormones have changed for some reason. It's either something that happens in time, or it has something to do with my lifestyle(diet, exercise, etc). One requires adding a chemical to my body and one requires changing my lifestyle.

I feel I need to explore my lifestyle first.

Hey man,
I am scared of using Propecia right now too, although I think i will use it eventually. Also, not many people lose their sex drive after a few weeks while using it full-time... don't be discouraged by the negative posters, because the people who have positive results don't usually post. Apparently it's only 2% of people who have lingering side effects anyway.

But the way I look at it, taking Propecia is just like my wife taking birth control LOL It hasn't ruined her health or lifestyle, although she did have some side effects the first week. At least I'll kinda know what she feels like taking pills that adjust her hormones.. it makes me feel a bit better ;-)

Actually I took the plunge this morning by buying a 4-month supply of Kirkland 5% Minoxidil online. I feel it's safer, and for the next 2 or 3 years I could use that while it's effective. Temple and hairline regrowth is what I want right now. I would suggest you use minoxidil for the time being.... try out the 5% version once a day at least. I am also using Nizoral 2-3 times a week at the moment, which is totally harmless.

I think its possible you have high hormones, but more likely is that you have very sensitive androgen receptors. DHT does not cause body hair, something else called FSH does I believe. And those people that are more sensitive to hormones usually have balding hair and body hair. I personally believe these people may be more sensitive to DHT reduction as far as libido goes, because of this androgen sensitivity.
