Hairstyles With Thinning Sides And Temple Points

Hi everyone. I've posted this question on another forum too, but I wanted to see what you guys thought.

My first custom hair systems will be delivered in a little over a month and I've been growing my bio hair out for about a month and a half now so I can have it blended with my hairpiece, but I have run into a problem. During the 10 years that I have been buzzing my head, the hair around my sides and my temples unknowingly to me have decided to thin out quite a bit; definitely a lot thinner than what they were and they seem patchy. So, to be able to pull off wearing a hair system without it being detected, I either will need to use Toppik on the sides or have the sides cut really short and fade it into the system. I'm a pretty active person, so using Toppik wouldn't work in most cases due to sweating.

Since I'm new to this, I was wanting to get some hairstyle opinions from those that have been wearing for a while. If I'm going to need a tapered or faded style on the sides, I'm curious if the attached pictures showing different styles are possible with a hair system. Which would be best? (The ones with Ben Affleck and Jake Gyllenhaal are more my style) Can they be blended properly and be undetectable?

Thanks for your help.

Hey Flannel

The Ben Affleck style is definitely doable (there have been multiple rumours that it IS a system), and also the last one.

The other 3 are more challenging. The key to getting those to work with hair that length is to have the edge of the system in a different place from the edge of the shaved area - in other words, you need to have a decent strip of natural hair at the top of your sides for the system to blend into, otherwise there is just too high a chance of the base being visible. Here are a couple of pics from a poster called "Snax" from another forum to show you what I mean. His is a really nice job.

If you haven't got enough quality hair to do what Snax does, the alternative is to forget blending and just have the close-cropped sides start at the edge of the system - hairdressers call this a disconnected undercut style. That works well too, but you have to leave the hair longer than in the photos you have attached - effectively a side fringe.

That looks great... I would do something like that if I decided to do short hair. Any sort of a bit of a comb-forward would do a great job of hiding the thinning areas (not covered by the system).

I don't think I can pull off a style like that. I will look into it at least and see what can be done. The good thing is I have done the normal newbie mistake and ordered a fairly high density system, so I think if I have a shorter cut the base should still be pretty well undetectable unless someone is right up on it. I'm not a huge fan of the undercuts that are shaved all the way to the system and then have a large amount of hair above it. If they are faded more into the system, I think I can make that style work.

I've attached some photos of my hair. The first two is of it just doing its own thing and the last two is of it brushed. You can see that it's pretty thin. It appears to be dupa, doesn't it? So, it'll be a month or so before my system will be in, so I'll have another month to grow my hair out. Do you think that will fill in more to look normal or should I just come to the realization that I'm going to have to have an undercut, fade, or short taper?

Wow... I see what you mean, I am not far behind you. I think that the style posted could work, why do you need to go shorter than that? Just wondering?

It's not as if someone is going to NOT know you have a hair system on, why not go a little wild and go for a really cool style?

You could always try and get the sides shaved, or almost shaved, and go for an undercut, basically a similar style, without the fade?

Thanks for posting your pics, btw. Not everyone is willing to do so.

I will post my after pics, when I get the unit.

Here is a before pic.

My work doesn't allow "trendy" hairstyles and require a tapered appearance for males. I'm also looking for a shorter style to allow for a better transition. Maybe the second system I can make it a longer style.

Your sides are not that bad Flannel, and you have nice temple points, which definitely add to the authenticity. You don't need to crop your sides as close as Snax (he is doing it to hide the fact that his sides are thinner than yours) so you will be able to go for a more graded conservative look.

Oh really? That's good to hear. That makes my anxiety go down some. I guess I'm nit picking too much with myself. :)
