Hairs lost in day a poor indicator?

Hey guys, quick question/observation.

I get the sense that the number of hairs a person loses in a day really has no bearing as an indicator of male pattern baldness?

I do have temporal recession (see my other thread), but my family, girlfriend, and hairdresser comment on how thick my hair is on top. Yet I lose a TON of hair throughout the day: 5-10 on the sink after blowdrying, 1-2 everytime I run my hands through my hair, 10-20 if I put gel in it, and a boatload when I shower (never officially counted, but after shampooing, I had 10 in my hand).

So, is the amount of hairs lost in a day a poor indicator of your male pattern baldness status? I am going to a hair transplant office on Saturday, although I am not interested in a transplant at this stage of my life, I want to get another opinion on the status of my hair loss (I've seen 2 dermo's already who weren't very helpful).

Any opinions welcome!
